I'm pretty sure that if it was a male chief doing the same thing, the feminists would support that action.

That said, there's no such thing as a female chief. You can have female monarchs and female elected officials, but in tribal society all chiefs are always cis men.

The fact that a female exists whom people pretend is a chief tells us something that is actually interesting: Malawi, or whatever part of it this story is from, is no longer a tribal society, which is why they are abandoning tribal arrangements such as child marriages.
