I can guarantee this absolutely did not fucking happen. I used to be a part time waiter at this sort of fancy restaurant and all in no way we are allowed to cause controversial conversations or convincing like asking the dude to pay. If the couple is having a hard time to pay we suggest them to split. We as waiters have no right to get between the customers.

Pffft... That woman probably had no intention of paying. Women will often do the whole fake "I got this" routine while still fully expecting the man to insist upon paying the bill in the end (his insistence of which she will of course ultimately "relent" to, *wink, wink*). The waitress merely interrupted the act.

At any rate, if that had been me, I would've told the waitress in no uncertain terms to mind her own fucking business, and then gone on to have an in-depth conversation with her boss/supervisor about the incident.
