Edited for brevity. Excerpts in full can be found in the source. While they were edited to fit the 300 character count, none of the meaning was substantially changed. I welcome anyone to ctrl-f the quoted pieces in the article to see my edits in full.

There is a concept in ancient eastern wisdom called “samskaras” or “impressions” that embed deep into the consciousness.

It’s not even about good or bad/ evil but their hold on the human ego/ identity that prevents the consciousness from becoming “free” from “Wordly entanglements”.

It’s not even about abstinence but about awareness so as to moderate the bio electric impulse & desire driven system with heightened awareness; likely cultivated by practices such as meditation and introspection/ reflection.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s not playing out in such scenarios and thus leading to more instability in the mind with respect to fidelity.

I’d think it affects individuals of both genders, maybe with some differences in how it does do & to what degree; and the flavors of impressions. But largely individual self awareness or blindness of one’s own patterns and repetition.

Be it Sex, foods, drug, drinks, smoke, or any habits or patterns - considered good or bad.

Fitness regimen, reading disciplines, mental patterns, being alone or needing people, extroversion or introversion or a mix of both, social or solitude, flavors of anything & everything; so called (7) sins are nothing but impressions that have strong imprint and hold on one’s system.

Be it a pattern of getting angry, of fights, violence, being manipulative or lying or letting things pass or laughing off life’s trials & tragedies or being locked by some emotions.

To be a Buddha is to clear all impressions & patterns and their hold / effect on one’s system.

So if the probability of infidelity by a virgin is say 20%, it is 22% for a woman who has had sex with one man before? And 230% for a woman who has had 20 partners?

It’s less than 10%, and it levels out at around 50±5%. There’s negligible difference between 25 and 40, for example.

[A]pproximately half of women in the top quintiles of sociosexuality [def. willingness to engage in sexual activity outside of a committed relationship] had been sexually unfaithful to a steady partner; this was more than a tenfold increase over the corresponding rate for people in the bottom quintiles.

Women’s number of pre-marital partners: percent [of wives] who cheated once married

  • 3: 14.9%
  • 4: 17.7%
  • 5: 21.6%
  • 6-10: 26.0%
  • 11-20: 36.7%
  • 21+: 46.8%

This latter data is suspect—I’ve never been able to independently verify it. It seems to become a coin toss.

The study itself was a comparison between F2F interviews and computer assisted self-interviews. Has anyone looked at the body of the study to determine the differences between the title statistic when measured F2F and by the computer method?

[–]LePetitPhagette[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes. It’s actually in the study.

F2F OR: 1.13

A-CASI OR: 1.07

So 7% for the other interview set?

I'd like to see the same thing run with men to see what the answers are.
