Family court is a damn joke

Brother, you're sure to get plenty of sympathy here, but not much in the way of actual advice, unfortunately. We all have our own story; some are different but many are the same. It's rare that any man will come out of Family Court thinking, "Wow, that was a pleasant experience hosted by competent professionals who really care about their job."

My judge was a retarded clown who fell asleep during testimony and violated the US Constitution more than once. I honestly believe he made up his mind about my case 30 minutes before the hearing began. My Guardian Ad Litem charged me over $2000, but she only interviewed me for about two minutes. My kids have no memory of talking to her at all. The GAL was friends with my ex's sister. The GAL suggested an unworkable visitation scheme. At another hearing, the judge and the opposing lawyer were coworkers, but no one cared. I was told that when a judge puts on a black robe, they are impartial. Oh really? Then let's have one of my friends wear the robe. And we'll see what happens.

Family Court really is a fucking joke. And that mantra of "The Best Interests of the Child" drives me nuts. Makes me want to punch someone in the throat when I hear it. Kids are FAR BETTER off with two involved parents. Mountains of evidence proves it. But it sure seemed like the court's mission was "Get rid of Dad, but get his money!".

I've been slowly driven out of my children's lives. I predicted years ago that my oldest daughter would have emotional problems as the result of the divorce terms. CALL ME NOSTRA-FUCKING-DAMUS! She began experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts from being raised by a single mom. BUT PRAISE JESUS, at least the stabilizing force of a father is gone. All Hail the supreme wisdom of the Family Courts.

I was denied access to her reports. For about a year, the only way I knew my daughter was alive was to search for her name in Google to see if her obituary existed; to see if she killed herself.

I'll be sexist and political; I don't care. But the truth is that women's votes are cheaper than men's. Judges and politicians run for office, promising to help women and kids. What Family Court judge would ever run on the platform: "I'll be fair to men!". THAT would be a joke; he'd never get elected.

Mix in some Title IV-D incentives to maximize child support by giving dad no custody, and you've got a perfect storm.

Family Courts hurt me and hurt my kids. But the lawyers will never admit it. They just pour gas on the fire because they have Lexus payments that need to be made. The smallest issue can become billable hours.

And forget coming to court with reason, logic, laws, facts, evidence or the truth. I mean, why should the law and the truth matter in a court?

If you're lucky -- damn lucky -- your lawyer will be the kind of lawyer who calls the judge by his first name and has lunch with him. THAT was my ex's lawyer. I never had a chance. She still thinks I'm unhappy because I lost at trial. No dear, I never had a trial. Your cunt lawyer told you to lie under oath, and you did, and the judge didn't care. Yet, I'm supposed to have respect for the court? Give me fucking break.

There are metal detectors at the front door of the courthouse. Gee, I wonder why. There are no metal detectors where I work. No one shows up where I work with a gun, mentally pushed over the edge, desperate and broken, thinking the only way to get justice is with a gun. No where else but Family Court does that happen.

Good luck to you and your son. I'm sorry his wellbeing is being traded for some cunt lawyer to earn a paycheck.

I was divorced six years ago. Our son decided to live with me full time four and a half years ago after my ex took up with an abusive ex-felon and twice-convicted domestic abuser. I immediately filed for the court to recognize that fact.

My ex "married" her abusive boyfriend in a large ceremony almost three years ago. They didn't get a marriage license specifically so they could keep collecting alimony from me. They also both collect disability while working under the table, tax-free. She stopped paying her court-mandated share of our son's expenses more than a year ago.

I am STILL waiting for a court date. She has successfully delayed it over and over. Once because she and her boyfriend had scheduled a luxury cruise. Twice because she felt sick. Another time because she tried to kill herself, supposedly, the night before. It just keeps going on, and on, and on...

You are not alone. I felt my family law courtroom was designed straight out of the wizard of Oz. Judge was a short old man whom sat on his throne. His desk/podium was atleast 20' plus higher then me. Very intimidating, like arguing with god. The processes are antiquated. The courts use fax and certified male for most document transmittal processing. I fought hard to get a basic deal (weekends/holidays/scraps). I was most surprised that more focus was placed on child support amounts rather then the actual quality of life for the children.

Slavery still exists. They use your offspring to enslave you, while preventing you from being in their lives at the same time. Your ex can use the money you give her for support to get a better attorney, further enslaving you. I'm 9 years in and still limping. Like getting in the ring with Tyson with your arms bound. System is fucked.

I pushed back with my lawyer saying the status quo is failing my son and I want to have a hearing. The hearing officer informed my lawyer that if I pressed for a hearing, that she would railroad me.

Why didn't she put that on the record?

Is your son in counseling or taking meds? He probably has untreated emotional or mental health issues. Poor academic performance is a symptom. Your ex is probably oblivious. I'd be concerned about drug use and risky behavior. Don't wait for him to end up in the ER.
