I personally think what the OP did was fully justified. She felt afraid and even if the man didn’t have any bad intentions, it’s not like she assaulted him with the pepper spray , she just showed it to him. She doesn’t need to feel bad for this. Now coming to the comments- the fact that such a generalising comment can get so many upvotes and become the top comment says a lot about why men don’t go into caregiving roles. There was a news of a woman pepper praying a man, who was playing with his own child, because she thought he looked creepy. God knows, how many people think similar things without taking such drastic actions.

Not striking up unnecessary conversations with random minors is probably a good habit regarding of gender
