The second example is more an issue, but the differences of definitions between hubby and wifey aren’t drastic IMO

It isn't a huge difference between hubby and wifey, but still it's telling. Both are diminutive, because cutesy terms of endearment are often like that. But to say that any guy who says "wifey" is belittling his wife? Nonsense.

Here's another example I have seen:

Maternal: The quality of having or showing the tenderness and warmth and affection of or befitting a mother.

Paternal: Showing a kindness and care associated with a father.

That's pretty cute, right? But add "istic" to the end of those words:

Maternalistic: Quality or state of having or showing maternal instincts.

Paternalistic: Relating to or characterized by the restriction of the freedom and responsibilities of subordinates or dependents in their supposed interest.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
