According to The Effects of Gender, Physical Attractiveness, and Socioeconomic Status on Initial Attraction , socioeconomic status bears very little influence on male attractiveness and, if anything, low status males were rated as slightly more attractive than high status males. What's even more interesting is that status had a positive effect on unattractive females. This means that unattractive high status females were rated higher than unattractive low status ones.

The researchers admit that the results contradict those of previous studies. They believe that this might be a shift of sexual preferences or a consequence of the specific professions used in the profile description. Nonetheless, the results are quite interesting.

I thought this is relevant because there is a lot of talk in TRP about hypergamy and men not caring about anything but the beauty of females.
