They're mostly conservatives, and the ongoing conservative narrative since the dawn of conservatism is that the past is better, which means things are continually changing for the worse in their eyes.

This is just a common conservative, but particularly reactionary, position. There was a time Before Now when Society was functioning well or at least better, however, The Terrible Thing (in this case Feminism) has ruined that and Now, Society is terrible. Therefore the solution is to return to the Before Time. Result: repeal any progressive reform legally or culturally and treat any further reforms with hostility.

It is particularly effective because men who fall victim to TRP are usually conflicted with feelings of alienation about their place in the social hierarchy. Sometimes they are lonely. Sometimes they are without purpose. Sometimes they've suffered recent loss or failure, and internalised this as being indicative of being less-than. Sometimes they're actively bullied or ostracised by other men (and yes, women too-especially teenage girls) for not reaching rigid standards. Then these cults, in this case Red Pill, transform that into projecting rage at women and feminism.

Frankly men are valid to feel alienated. Attitudes towards masculinity and gender have radically shifted with feminism and now intersectionality, but there are still conflicting messages about traditional gender roles vs. progressive ones, and certain binding pressures (e.g. the fact that women are now working full-time, and the fact working-class women ALWAYS HAVE, does not change the stress of having to earn wealth and status to be recognised as a 'real man', which under contemporary capitalism is rather punitive.) It's not as simple as loss of privilege and aggrieved entitlement, or rather it's not a temper tantrum. It's a genuine disorientation ironically as a result of men's liberation from rigid expectation to marry and have a family which they're too young to appreciate, and the early feminists explored it in depth when dealing with women's emancipation. What exactly, if there has ceased to be a guaranteed path (defined by patriarchy) to our lives, do we do with ourselves? Because being free does not guarantee being happy or fulfilled, we have to work for that.But of course it's illiberal to retract women's freedoms to resolve that.

Most MGTOW and incels in particular are laser focussed on how they need to 'work' for marriage and relationships today, hence the obsession with being alpha/Chad. It's all to avoid feeling emasculated and being rejected or abandoned. But besides the fact this can be abusive and manipulative, they miss the point. They don't need to 'achieve' marriage, they need to reach a healthy bond with another person, in this case a woman who may or may not consent to marriage. Which isn't possible until they reach a healthy bond with themselves.

Women as a group haven't really changed in the 20 years I've been dating. The way we overall talk about each other however has, in line with the economy, the rise of social media and digital photography.
