My ex kept complaining about my independence. He was abusive and controlling. When they whine about women being independent, they are whining that they can't oppress women and keep them trapped in a relationship due to not being able to be financially independent.

Literally this. I actually want to have a family and be a housewife but I’m 22 and don’t have a husband so I kind of have to way to pay for my bills and life. Me having a job doesn’t make me an “independent woman”.

It’s even more ridiculous since they don’t realize that for most of human history, women have had to work. They were farmers, seamstresses, factory workers, nurses in wars, teachers, etc. The 1950s trad housewife image redpillers love so much is a pretty unique time in history (the post WWII economic boom) and even then, a lot of women weren’t able to afford not to work.

Most Red Pill guys can't take care of themselves, much-less a wife. That is why they are so angry, and one of their battle cries is to earn and save money.

Conversely, these same men will complain that women want to live off of men without contributing, “what do women bring to the table?”, but will also say a woman’s education & income isn’t important to them & that career driven women are masculine to them. The contradictions are pure insanity.
