A guy actually mansplains to me that women’s suffrage wasn’t a “result of feminist activism”, but rather a gift given to women by men “as a natural result of a developing society”. I guess that he forgot about the suffragettes that bombed buildings and went on hunger strikes in prison.

I remember a girl in my history class saying we should acknowledge that men have us the right to vote. And,

1) they actually denied us the right, and should never have been in a position to do so 2) there's one guy in this class and you're way out of his league - who are you trying to impress?

Beyond that, he's wrong... white women were granted suffrage to offset the votes of black men, which were granted slightly before. Racial politics trumping sexual politics.

Edit: I feel silly to have simplified it so much, I am doing some research now to back up my inflammatory statements. Surprise! It's much more complicated. However, the pro-white argument was certainly used to advance women's suffrage and agitated over.

This is such bullshit. Women fought for this rights. What gave men the right to grant women freedom? They are the ones who denied us the right in the first place, even if they had just granted us the right out of the goodness of their hearts, which they didn't, they still wouldn't be deserving of thanks.

Those women were brave beyond belief. Had more balls than a lot of men. I live in a small area and there is a grave not far from me of a suffragette who threw herself in front of a train so we had the right to vote. Never forget them.

I love it when men try and mansplain the feminist movement to me, like most people (Including libfems) they don't know the first fucking thing about it. I like this guys irrantional take though, imagine being so far up your own gender's ass you actually say it was men who just got together and decided to "disagree" with their forefather's and in their own wisdom, decided women should have the vote.

Lemme break this down for your chump - When women got the vote in 1928 England (If you were over the age of 21) they were still in a position whereby they needed men to open bank accounts, buy property, get jobs etc.

The right to vote wasn't the be all end all, its was the very beginning and part of the game-plan of patriarchy was to make women believe that feminism has run its course and could stop now. Men want women to stop. They want them to be quiet, be submissive, be passive, be irrationally adoring of men, non judgemental, social mothers.

Men always have been the weaker sex and they know it.
