She wanted to make it abundantly clear that she'd seen him. As many guilty, entitled men do, he'll then run around and try to keep her in his harem...which won't work, because she made herself vanish. I love it.

She should not have left him breakfast and a game. he and his ex got up, ate her breakfast, and played the game together.
She set herself up for this disrespect by being the "forever girlfriend." Do not date a man 5 years. Your life goes by faster than you think! He gets ONE year. If he's not ready to marry by the end of one year, you're gone.
[–]sushiwalrusFDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She left it there along with her key to the house to indicate that she had been in the house and saw him. Hence leaving the key behind. Also leaving the breakfast and video game behind let’s him know that she was there to give him a gift. Even the shittiest fuckboi will feel at least a twinge of guilt at that, and the girl with him chances are would have felt too disturbed to stay there. I’m sure his guilty ass tried calling her to explain but he was blocked lmao. It was a power move and she’s an absolute goddess. She showed class and established her boundaries at the same time. I would have thrown the hot breakfast in his face because I’m not as even tempered.
[–]MediocrityGetsUPearsFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Since when has marriage ever changed a man's behavior? If she took your advice, she'd have to go through a divorce with this dude cause Lord knows he'd cheat whether he was dating her or married to her. That's his nature.
[–]TheAmazingJohnFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The statistics don't show that. People who are committed enough to their partner to get married cheat far less than people who are merely dating or living together.
That he wouldn't commit after 5 years showed he was reserving the right to leave her on a whim.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I understand that she shouldn't have but I can see myself doing the same thing. Why? Because I could see myself being in shock and being so done. To go "ew I don't want these in my car as a reminder." Like imagine trying to stomach the breakfast you bought for your cheater. It's better to dump and run imo.
Plus if I didn't have a game system I wouldn't bother bringing the game or spending time offloading it. Maybe she did it to be like "look how good I was" to make him regret harder. But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. Micro tweezing it seems pointless at this point.
It's like if someone won a race and you were like "ok but on lap one you should have hugged tighter on the curves. That's where you messed up. "
And yes, she shouldn't have been a forever girlfriend, but you don't know what you don't know until you know it.
I'm sure now she's pouring over the miss steps.
She reached the final destination of self respect, let's not pick on how she got here.

[–]modernmedusaaRuthless Strategist91 points92 points93 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Oh no some even go deeper than that. Some will claim she hit and abused him for extra sob points
It’s funny whenever I’ve met a guy who claims his ex was narcissistic & abusive....he always turns out narcissistic & abusive & I end up cutting him off. Almost as if it’s classic projection to throw the scent off?
[–]MaisiebrFDS Newbie54 points55 points56 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Or bringing up real cases where she protected herself from him. I've been there, hit my ex because he crawled on top of me and refused to let me go. I'm pretty sure he's going around saying I hit him, but witholding the reason why.
[–]pinkyberriesFDS Disciple11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Same!
When me and my ex broke up (i found out he went behind my back and took his female 'friends' on dates and had sexual/'romantic' conversations with them and trashed me to them multiple times) he tried to hold me and stopped me from leaving so i slapped him and left.
He goes around telling people i was physically abusive, this is the only time (and first) i ever raised my hand on any person in my life. No regrets.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
My ex was like that. He talked about his ex-girlfriend A LOT and told me that she would hit on other guys, constantly be drunk, did drugs, cheated on him, etc...
I found him on a dating site using a completely different name (he said he wasn't cheating on me), going out on a "group thing" with a female friend (which was obviously a date), and caught him in other flat-out lies. I'm sure his abusive, narcissistic ex-girlfriend was probably just a woman standing up for herself.
I mean, this guy was so good at bullshitting that I have had serious issues in trusting other people since we broke up. And we only dated for a year.
[–]modernmedusaaRuthless Strategist3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Massive red flag if he’s bringing his ex up repeatedly trying to use you as therapist. He’s still resentful and not over it
HVM won’t bring an ex up till way deeper in the game and it’ll be a one off convo
[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Shit, I think it's a red flag when people ASK about MY ex, like, on a first date. THAT is where you want to go in our getting-to-know-eachother phase? It's really just so you can talk about YOURS, isn't it, and it isn't going to be a nice "oh our priorities changed and we were better apart" conversation.
(Actually this is when I want to walk out on a date the most, when they do the "so when's the last relationship you had / why did you break up / how is online dating going for you" routine. I understand getting to know people's relevant histories, but if all you want to talk about is dating, I'm just going to assume that's all you have in your life, and no thanks. I don't want to talk about my lovelife with a new date, and I sure as shit don't want to hear about his.)
[–]modernmedusaaRuthless Strategist2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I agree- I think its a thinly veiled attempt to file you into Madonna or Whore category, don't you think?
Like if you dumped them (which you're entitled to lol), and they don't feel you had enough reason why- they're judging you as superficial or whatever. Or they think you can't settle- which is never the issue- the issue is the guy not being good enough for longterm otherwise we'd have NO REASON to dump them.
It also implies insecurity imo- and its quite a socially inept topic to be discussing so fast. I feel the same on the rare occasion a guy asks me my N count. Like are you 12 bro lol? You scared or something? You can tell they're a child still.
[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes! They always say she was the cheater when it’s actually most likely to be him... my ex said randomly “I’ve never cheated on a gf before. But I’ve been cheated on.” - and I think actually he was the cheater... it was so weird for him to bring up out of the blue no context... My friends thought he was basically wanting reassurance but I think he actually maybe did.
[–]modernmedusaaRuthless Strategist60 points61 points62 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
BIG FACTS. Guilty conscience leaking out - they flip the script to throw you off & pickmeisha’s fall for it because they always want to see the best side in people 🙄 not wise with men. They’re rarely telling the full story- just his edited version.
Seriously how many women do you know IRL that actually cheat on their partner compared to how many get cheated on? I bet not many. It’s pretty rare us women stumble across a woman knowingly cheating but it’s not rare meeting women that have been cheated on by men numerous times. That’s why most of them are single- kicking him out for having other women on the go.
Yet every LVM you meet seems to run into loadsssss of abusive ‘pyscho’ cheating women. Not buying it. They always turn out to be the cheating manipulator 99% of time’s. Just gaslighting as usual. At the v worst - she probs revenge cheated after getting tired of his lies and abuse.
They start bringing that ex up badmouthing her they’re not over it and they’re probably projecting using it as a statement of vulnerability to lure you in, forge trust and throw the scent off. ‘Woe is me bond with me’
Do not fall for men telling you sob stories fast
[–]Unlikely-MarzipanFDS Disciple34 points35 points36 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yep, I reckon you are right! The more I think about it. He also told me he was abused by one of his exes as she hit him in the head with a pan! Next time he told the story it was a shovel 🤔 when I pointed the lie out to him and he couldn’t lie his way out, his eyes went dead cold and black. Like, so cold they gave me chills. And he slapped me on the back and walked away... and then he never bought it up again. The next morning just said “hey baby! I had fun last night.” That was his MO - never talking about our arguements again, and if he did he would blame me for ruining the night...
He ended up getting physically violent with me (intimidating with playing with a knife initially), lots of name calling and crazy making, and intimidating stares. As I never backed down into silence and I yelled louder to be heard - it escalated to boxing the air in my face (he was a fighter), pushing me, tackling me, kicking a door down when I ran away for safety...
Then screamed “look what you made me do!” He also said I was a violent little thing (because I fought back!) I had bruises all over my arms (from his grasps)... he had scratch marks on his chest (from me defending myself)...
I also found him suggestively texting a female friend of his when we were together. Only reason it stopped probably because she got a bf...when I was going through his phone (he also had mine) he wasn’t even looking through mine! He was too worried looking at what I would find in his - then suddenly he went red with anger and screamed give me back my phone and pushed me again...
So, yea I reckon it was that he cheated in the past!
He said he was so shy with women (barf I hate when they say that), but he was SO smooth and cocky. He mirrors people! And he mirrored me for sure...I caught him on multiple lies... and something so deep in my gut just didn’t trust the “I’ve never cheated before...” and so many other things.
sorry for the rant! Had to get myself angry again to keep propelling myself forward.

[–]blingdurttyFDS Newbie23 points24 points25 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
My ex said that too. I had met him through a common friend. So he went on to add how he had very nobly let everyone believe he was the cheater to “protect her image”. This was to cover his ass lest any of those friends tell me the truth. I believed him back then. I only realised how full of shit he was when he told his new girlfriend I cheated on him (I know because she called me a cheating whore who had “broken him” in a message). Such good riddance.
[–]Unlikely-MarzipanFDS Disciple8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Holy fuck! That is next level! Did you tell her that you didn’t cheat? I wonder if they are still together. Far out. I did wonder if my ex is telling people the same thing too about me.
[–]blingdurttyFDS Newbie6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
She blocked me immediately after messaging so I didn’t have a chance to correct her. They broke up a couple of months ago in a very dramatic manner. Guess what, according to him she cheated on him!
Initially I was bothered too but realised I really don’t care. Those who know me know I wouldn’t ever do that to a partner, and I don’t care about what others think.
[–]Unlikely-MarzipanFDS Disciple4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Omg that guy! He really doesn’t learn that people see through his BS 🙄
I agree, the right people will know the truth. I think even with my ex, his closest friend probably would know he’s a liar. He treats him like shit too. But I guess these guys can be charming to others who don’t know them so closely - oh well. Karma is a btch.
[–]blingdurttyFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I’m so sorry you were ever associated with such a guy. It almost sounds like we had the same ex! Mine treated his closest “friends” like shit too. He has walked away from people (best friend of 13 years, ex of 7 years) for no reason with no explanation or remorse. He almost boasted to me how much scarring that 7 year ex still had when they reconnected much later. And you’re right that these people have enough charm to fool people who haven’t known them for long. That included us at some point I guess! Hope good people manage to avoid them. Letting karma do its thing :)
[–]Unlikely-MarzipanFDS Disciple1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Wow, that’s heartless. They must be narcs maybe. And to brag about how much scarring she had!? That’s cruel. Mine always punched his best mate for no reason, just he’d pissed him off for being drunk or something. And also he doesn’t talk to other exes, but one still hangs around on his social media (she seems submissive type), and I reckon he probably guilt tripped her when she left him... none of the others talk to him.
Sorry you were involved with someone like that too, and glad you’re out of it now!

[–]MiaNaimFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This sounds like my ex. Isolation is a classic abuser tactic. They want you alone void of any type of support system. He'd accuse me of being gay due anytime I attempted to hang with my friends (mall trips, spa day, mani/pedis) Then the asshat went as far as insinuating I had an inappropriate relationship with my brother simply because he wasn't on speaking terms with his sisters. Smh, never again
That totally makes me wonder what my exes say about me.

Hahaha I got into an ex’s g-mail once (when I was already on my way out) and he really tried to panic lie & say his ‘crazy ex’ must of hacked into it and planted shit completely unrelated to his ex there
I said that’s funnnnnny ! How would you not have noticed it in your MAIN email account? She seems to have been planting it a while :O And how would she know I was going to accidentally get a peek of your email when you left it open on my laptop by mistake? She must be psychic too!
It really just confirmed my gut instinct to dump him was correct- but the funny thing is he was trying to marry me & pretend he was serious. And he was around me a lot too. Wouldn’t put anything past them. Always snoop
Lol LVM are the worst liars. They can’t even cough up or make it sound believable even when they’ve been caught red handed with screenshots.

I think the job was already something she wanted. Most men go crazy when you dump them, and she didn't want him to have ANY avenue to harass her with WHY?! Or I'M SORRY. That's great that you don't need to do any of that, but the OP did what was right for her and I completely get it. It was her way of getting closure from a relationship she probably thought would end in marriage and kids. She took a hard hit walking into that. What she did was far more mature than what most women would be tempted to do.
[–]burnerbabeeFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Very true! I wouldn't want to bend over backwards. I actually love for my exes to see how easily I just forget about them and live normally. But idk, it felt almost like a spiritual disconnect. Like she wasn't just over him, she was over it all. I'm sure her FB had the 5 years worth of relationship junk all over it and whatnot. New job, new city, no social media, friends and family on board - a fresh start to deal with the pain and put it behind you.

But the food & key alone would have been ok. A soggy cold breakfast and a key.
She could have sharpied a middle finger on the food container. But why give him the satisfaction. She went out classy af.
[–]cantstopthemachine77FDS Newbie94 points95 points96 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
My theory is that she was thinking it might drive into the wound even deeper by making it completely obvious what a class act and amazing girlfriend she was by showing what she was on her way to do when she caught him. Emphasizing even more what a shit person he is.
Problem is, I think most men don’t have the introspective skills to see it that way, or they are straight sociopaths with no guilt that something like that wouldn’t bother them anyway, their emotional level is so basic he probably was just like “at least I got a game out of it”.
She’s the one who knows the guy though, so maybe she knew him well enough to know that it was indeed something that would occur to him and make him feel like even more of a piece of shit. It’s not like she’s some, “blind to the bs of men” pickme. I trust her judgement based on how she handled this whole thing like a total queen.
I suppose taking the actual game out would have given a close enough effect without rewarding him without the actual satisfaction of getting a game he wanted from her for free, though.
[–]anonymouspinneapleFDS Newbie9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I think most men have the introspective skills, they just have a huge ego that doesn't allow them to communicate with others. When they fucked up, they insist on saying they don't care but they do. It hurts them deeply.
I think saying that guys are unable of instrospection or unable to change is making them a favor, they're no longer responsible of doing so because they're supposed to be unable. They are able and responsible for doing so.
[–]cantstopthemachine77FDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Maybe I should have phrased it as “unwilling to implement the introspective skills” because I do understand your point but that wasn’t my intended meaning.
Men may have it but they are so much more likely to just completely ignore it to protect their ego, they may face it eventually, but it will be years down the line. I don’t know if your phrasing of “it hurts them deeply” is completely accurate though either.
Most of them I honestly don’t think it does. At most maybe it makes them angry which I suppose is technically a form of hurting.
[–]anonymouspinneapleFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Unwilling to implement them, I agree completely.
They face it eventually and is funny how they act when they realize the fuck up. A friend of mine is dealing with an ex that used to ignore her and now that she is over him, he texts saying how sorry he is and how she is a great woman. They ended things over a year ago...
I think they process differently, most of them are not in touch enough with their feelings to differentiate sadness from anger and have no intention of doing something about it.
[–]cantstopthemachine77FDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh yea, always exceptions to the rule and I have seen that kind of thing in my own life as well, which is exactly why I mentioned trusting OP’s obviously amazing judgement on leaving the video game and breakfast.
[–]brit-mdFDS Newbie54 points55 points56 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nah IMO give them absolutely zero reason for them to call you “crazy”. Also give them zero reason to think they hurt you in any way and you’re taking it out on them. It will actually drive them mad and they’ll start to lose it completely 🤡

This is my rule FOR NOW ON! I always had a habit of being argumentative. Maybe it's because I grew up in rough, poor city and with a family where everyone needs to have the last word lol.
I learned the hard way - arguing with men is the biggest waste of breath. This man slept peacefully with his ex. You really think he's gonna learn a lesson? He probably would have WANTED her to see them and to go postal.
They hate silence though. Nothing seems to hurt a man worse than being ghosted for whatever reason.

So good.
I did something a bit similar to my abusive ex husband. One day I just told him I was serious about getting a divorce and kicked him out. He cried, begged, threatened and kept texting me every day. I didn't reply and started dating someone else...
Arguing and explaining just lets them feel like they still have a part of you, you're not fully gone so it delays the amount of time they have to feel truly alone. Cut them off straight away and they get the grief within a few days.

[–]harrohamtaroFDS Newbie5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Er the scumbag LVM cheated on her so why should she be the one to leave a video game AND breakfast for him, then go through the inconvenience of changing her phone number and social media accounts, and switching to a new job just to ghost him, all in the assumption that he would see the error of his ways and regret his actions? How is this empowering when she had to do all the work even on her way out? And no, he wouldn’t see how good he got in the past five years or he wouldn’t have cheated on her. He and the ex probably had a nice breakfast together and played the video game.
[–]rosewater1375FDS Newbie53 points54 points55 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
When I first read this post some time ago, I thought why would she inconvenient herself to this extent for a cheater? Change number? Move to a new city? Start new job? A cheater is not worth all this hassle to prove a point. Cheaters usually don't have conscience, they try to justify whatever they do. I doubt he felt as remorseful as much as she hoped. Idk.
[–]sososoniaFDS Newbie169 points170 points171 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don’t think all of that was for the cheater. I think it was for her to get a fresh start mentally. She’s been with this guy for five whole years.

Was anyone else irritated that she left the game there for him to keep? Them shits are like $60! If he cared about her so little to cheat on her like that, he probably wasn’t all that hurt by this and still enjoyed the game. If it were me, I wouldn’t have left the game, my key, and his breakfast. That’s closure. I’d have made it look like I was never even there. Let him sweat. Let him wonder what it was that made me leave.

Okay so, maybe an unpopular opinion but, I would rather die than go to so much effor to ghost an ex. She literally changed her entire life over this man. Plus the fact that she did all this because it would hurt more than a normal breakup shows she is still letting him control her. She is still bothered about how he feels and what he thinks and making major life decisions with the only intent of causing a reaction in him.
Why should she move, get a new job, leave her friends and family behind, change the way she interacts with social media? I would block him on everything but stay put. I did nothing wrong, he can move away in shame.
Also leaving the game was such a pickme move.
And I am pretty sure the guy wasn’t left wondering what happened. He went to sleep with his ex, woke up to breakfast and a present from his current gf, and found she had blocked him on everything. You don’t need to be a genius to put 2+2 together.
If she truly wanted to ghost him she should have taken the breakfast and game and vanished as if she was never there.

Yaaaaassss Queen! But I wouldn’t have left the game. He’s not getting another dime. The breakfast and key would’ve been enough for me. Probably would’ve left a note too just in case his “ex” had some blind notion that they weren’t together. Something simple like “this is done. Don’t call me. Enjoy.”
That way when he tries to get back together with her for comfort she has a warning about what happened and can run if she knows what’s good for her.

Would have been better if she didn’t leave the keys and game and breakfast on the counter. Obviously he figured out why (that she came in and saw him cheating).
