"When being an extreme pickme backfires". That needs to be the title of a book or something.

lol this reminds me of “when keeping it real goes wrong” on Chapelle’s show.

I think “Being an extreme pickle backfires” would cover it 👍🏻

[–]Only_Lime2520FDS Newbie 181 points182 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Yay more publicity!!
TBH I think the whole thing backfired on them; they were trying to recruit supporters for their little hate campaign but ended up giving us free advertising space.

I actually joined after I read a critical article about the sub, and I wanted to see for myself. I ended up nodding along to everything I read so much, that I became a member, and could read why certain types were so bothered by it. 😏

Same. This sub came up in a "controversial subreddits" post and someone commented bashing it. I took a look and... Shocker. They were being disingenuous. This is one of the only safe spaces for women on reddit.

Im here because people talked shit about FDS but all i see is just women not wanting to deal with abuse and misogyny. I dont get why ppl think fds bad? Granted i have a boyfriend but everyone here seems so supportive

[–]CarpedictumFDS Newbie 109 points110 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

A whole lot of us have boyfriends, many have husbands, but the mantra is never stop vetting. Click subscribe and stick around. 👍🏻

[–]GrapeJuiceEnthusiastFDS Disciple 9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I love how so many of us here are married or in committed relationships. I don't really find myself needing a lot of the advice but it's just nice here because everyone is so supportive and I love knowing everyone here is a woman.

[–]Fatt3stAveng3rFDS Disciple 31 points32 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's because we don't sugarcoat the problem. I'm engaged, and ridiculously happy in my relationship. I got him using FDS. Vetting, paying attention, having a rotating date schedule and going on 5+ dates every weekend with new guys rotated in (first date goes ok, second date, evaluate and throw away). He passed every internal "test" I had. I seriously had a notebook I used for dating to process my thoughts and feelings so I could look at situations objectively.

And I hold myself to a high standard. I don't rely on my partner financially, emotionally or physically. I'm happy single. I'm able to support myself. I don't NEED him. And that is so freeing! He puts so much effort and time into keeping me happy and loved, because he and I both know we can do it ourselves. It's such a pleasure to give to someone when you know they don't need or expect it.

FDS prevents abuse. FDS prevents misery. Love yourself so you can love your other half. That's all.

[–]MrsJohnMarston__FDS Newbie 114 points115 points  (12 children) | Copy Link

I see she’s locked her account now. Probably complaining she’s getting “deranged abuse” or something.

[–]NurseBubbleGumFDS Apprentice 135 points136 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]TheboredshrimpFDS Apprentice 71 points72 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Summerisle7FDS Disciple 44 points45 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]MrsJohnMarston__FDS Newbie 31 points32 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

She’s certainly tedious

[–]Lavender_flowFDS STRATEGY COACH[S] 86 points87 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

Well considering she was so quick to scream bloody murder. But refuses to share any screenshots of the nasty dms I think she is full of shit. She is literally posting all this random crap on all social media platforms and wS quick to tweet about abuse. But refuse to share evidence. The pickme who cried wolf.

[–]MissYouMagdalenFDS Newbie 13 points14 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Come on now. Yes she wrote a bad article but we ALL know she isn't lying about abusive messages. We have ALL gotten multiple abusive messages. You don't have to do anything special, just be female. She is getting threats openly in threads she didn't even post. Its all right there across multiple platforms. Please don't imply she is lying about the abuse when the overwhelming evidence is right there for everyone to see.

She is probably naive and/or writing what she was told to by her corporate bosses. Thats just my opinion/guess. I don't have a lot of sympathy but I don't believe she deserves abuse for doing her job.

Also, take a real good look at this thread. This one article is reaching thousands of women that need this sub as badly as I do. Even though she attempted to tear this sub down she helped all our new subscribers level up.

[–]Lavender_flowFDS STRATEGY COACH[S] 11 points12 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

difference is, she claimed said messages was from FDS users. That is what I have a hard time believing her claims about "demented abuse from FDS" and she refused to share those PM's. I absolutely believe men and trolls would target her, like the rest. But she claimed it was FDS Users.

[–]electroloopRuthless Strategist 563 points564 points  (24 children) | Copy Link

Good. That article was an absolute train wreck and so construed to paint FDS in a negative light by making it sound like we promote misandry.

Just because we have bare minimum standards for ourselves, we are man haters.

Just because we stand against the objectification and exploitation of women, we are man haters.

Just because we have encountered a multitude of negative experiences in our past when it comes to men and found a platform where we can share our stories and help other move on from their negative experiences with positive growth, we are man haters.

Also this quote from the article makes me laugh harder than I shoud:

" Forced vasectomies are good, but sex work and pornography are bad. The moderators are also proudly kink-shamey, claiming that BDSM and polyamory are disrespectful and only ever explored for a man’s benefit, rather than because a woman might have a genuine interest herself."

Gee, Dominique! Hope you get picked!!! Nobody has a genuine interest in emotional, mental, and physical abuse. But I get it, you're trying to announce to your 1k something basement dwelling male twitter followers that you're a CoOl GiRl and kink friendly!

[–]GreatOrchidAmbitionFDS Newbie 168 points169 points  (11 children) | Copy Link

I just wrote a comment with this gist. I get the vibe that she has a lot of internalized shit to work through regarding being a looked-over woman.

a LOT of FDS users (myself included) find this place after being in abusive relationships with losers and vowing to NEVER be in that position again. FDS users are more "experienced" in life, in my opinion. My vibe from her after I looked at her IG is that to be quite honest she was never that popular with guys and now has this kinkycool persona she thinks will attract guys. It won't, btw honey.

[–]Emergency-Feed8216FDS Apprentice 78 points79 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

I got that read too. Weird thing is that my fashion model friends in NY were way less Pickmeisha and far more rad than the female journalists, financiers and law school grads I knew. The latter would look nervously over their shoulders if an "overly feminist" topic would come up as if they were afraid some male might overhear and disapprove. When I was really young and naive the latter school friends would give the worst dating advice, always along the lines of "Go easy on him!" or "Just try cOmMuNICatIng!"

Meanwhile the model friends would just say, "Fuck him," "Never put up with bs," "Know your worth!" I thank my lucky stars I ignored the first round of counsel and listened to the second.

It's partly this unfair thing that some models may be less vulnerable to typical manipulative tactics from men like "Yer just a fat, ugly man-hater and, and, and... nobody'll ever love ya!" The attacks didn't really stick.

[–]lucidlotusFDS Newbie 73 points74 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Interesting. I'd guess the models had to deal with more blatantly bad behavior by men in the industry early on and learned to be constantly wary of men as potential predators, but the financiers, etc. saw men more as peers as a result of being in school with them and the men were more subtle in their predatory efforts, so the women were more likely to be forgiving...

[–]Emergency-Feed8216FDS Apprentice 45 points46 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, not sure if this is still the case but my black girlfriends would say racism in northern states in the US felt more damaging because it's more fragmented and sly than in the south, where people are more likely to wear their attitudes out on the open so you can see them coming instead of getting blindsided

Except one friend who said this then refused to drive through Mississippi (where she was born) on a cross country road trip. We drove all the way around the state to get to D.C.

In her recollection, attitudes were a little too out in the open in that state. Her grandmother knew Emmett Till's Mississippi relatives.

In the end, doesn't it all suck rocks?

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Mississippi still has actual Sundown Towns. Black people literally risk their lives if they end up in a Sundown Town after dark.

Up until at least the 70's Mississippi had so many Sundown Towns that black people were advised to just avoid the entire state when traveling cross country.

[–]Emergency-Feed8216FDS Apprentice 18 points19 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I remember how adamant she was though she never mentioned the sundown towns. I didn't argue at all, just rerouted. It surprised me that for someone who had clear reasons for literally everything she did in life, the feelings she had about the state went beyond words and she was unusually terse. Turns out another man was lynched in Mississippi in 2015. Her antenna was up.

[–]WatzooFDS Newbie 99 points100 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

It may attract guys, but unfortunately they’re likely to be the type that leaves her life in ruins.

[–]Volperossa_FDS Newbie 295 points296 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Right. Like, when you hear of men who like to get dominated, most people assume something might be off with him. Which is totally fine, he probably needs therapy though. When you hear of a woman who likes to be dominated, it’s NoRmAl. Women are supposed to want to be choked, slapped, forced into anal play, because we’re a “submissive” gender. If you try to do any of that to a guy during sex, the tables turn. It’s not empowering, otherwise they would want it to. It’s degrading. Regardless of gender.

[–]Charming-Bee-2337 159 points160 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Its so sexist to assume women are naturally submissive, they think theyre so progressive but its the same ideas men have always said to excuse why women shouldnt work and should stay at home slaving away for a man.

Sisley is just ventriloquizing the views of the Murdoch publishing empire which took control of Vice in 2013 and, by the way, is also heavily invested in the porn industry.

It's common practice for neoliberal, radical rightwing media conglomerates to take over "progressive" seeming publications and to try to scuttle the narrative within progressive movements, divide and conquer, etc.

Entryism, noun: The infiltration of a political party by members of another group, with the intention of subverting its policies or objectives.

James Murdoch Buys a Stake in Vice Media

Rupert Murdoch’s son is focusing his investments on media businesses that bear little resemblance to those in his father’s empire.

James Murdoch, who sits on Vice’s board, invested in the media company through his holding company, Lupa Systems

By Edmund Lee Oct. 10, 2019

James Murdoch, the former chief executive of 21st Century Fox, has taken a small stake in Vice Media, the irreverent media brand focused on millennials and entertainment.

Mr. Murdoch, who already sits on Vice’s board, made the investment as part of Vice’s recent acquisition of Refinery29, a women’s lifestyle publisher, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because the deal is meant to be private.

The investment, which was first reported by The Financial Times, is through Mr. Murdoch’s holding company, Lupa Systems. He formed Lupa after leaving 21st Century Fox, the media giant founded by his father, Rupert Murdoch. Last year, the family sold off the majority of Fox’s assets to the Walt Disney Company for more than $70 billion.

The younger Murdoch, who personally netted about $2 billion from that sale, has invested in a diverse group of media businesses that looks very different from the one his father founded. He is also less interested in traditional news ventures, the person who is familiar with the matter said.

In August, Mr. Murdoch led a consortium of investors to buy a controlling stake in Tribeca Enterprises, which owns the Tribeca Film Festival as well as a production studio. He said he would work with Tribeca founders Jane Rosenthal and Robert DeNiro to expand the business.

This year, he put money into Artists, Writers & Artisans, a new comics publisher founded by former Marvel executives.

The Murdoch family has a history with Vice. Mr. Murdoch joined the board in 2013 as part of a $70 million investment Fox made that summer. Fox’s stake in Vice went to Disney as part of last year’s acquisition.

The money-losing Vice has faced a tough turnaround as it looks to trim costs and remake its content portfolio. The Refinery acquisition was part of that effort under Vice’s chief executive, Nancy Dubuc, who joined the company in 2018.

A former head of the A&E cable network, Ms. Dubuc has already presided over several shake-ups since taking over. The company laid off 10 percent of its staff this year and consolidated several websites under the Vice.com umbrella.

In June, Ms. Dubuc hired Jesse Angelo, a former publisher of The New York Post, to become Vice’s head of global news and entertainment. Mr. Angelo and Mr. Murdoch have known each other since they were children, and Mr. Angelo was the best man at his wedding.

wowwwww this explains so much! I did not know the Murdoch's invested in porn!!!!! This is a huge piece of the puzzle that was missing for me. How much damage can one creepy old man and his famiy do?? These people are single handedly holding back so much progress. I feel like FDS needs a thorough post about the Murdoch's and how they fuel misogyny so we can fight back.

side note, why won't Rupert Murdoch just fucking die already? The guy is like in his 90s.

[–]Emergency-Feed8216FDS Apprentice 12 points13 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

He reminds me of the ghoul in Pan's Labyrinth.

It could turn out to be a relatively small number of power figures engineering certain modern calamities like the porn zombie epidemic. If you had to guess who had the power, the capital and the demented Orwellian (or would that be Huxleian?) MO required, it wouldn't be too farfetched to put Murdoch on that list. He could and he probably would.

I'm not someone who typically falls for "evil mastermind" conspiracy concepts since I think most of the evil in the world is from sheer callousness and incompetence. I think people find it almost comforting to imagine evil geniuses at the helm. In case, say, a massive meteor were hurtling towards earth, wouldn't those cartoon megamind villains stop it out of basic self preservation?

But in the case of Murdoch and a few others, there's this sense of truly psychopathic malevolence and demented social engineering coupled with genuinely terrifying amounts of power, like serial killers on a long game.

Can't wait for the next season of Succession (loosely based on the Murdochs).

It’s so fucked up that we’re criticized more harshly for hating men, than men are for constantly doing the things that make us hate them.

[–]MissYouMagdalenFDS Newbie 30 points31 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Its a fundamental patriarchy rule, women aren't allowed to be angry for any reason. https://youtu.be/wzWtT8VXaik

Its gaslighting on a global scale.

Another patriarchy rule is to divide women at all costs. Getting together and supporting each other will free all of us.

[–]Salt_SatisfactionFDS Disciple 100 points101 points  (21 children) | Copy Link

[–]vitryolicFDS Apprentice 195 points196 points  (20 children) | Copy Link

No worries at all 😊 These are some of the types of comments made about the author: - that men couldn’t get away with speaking about women the way she does - the article is “ass garbage” - that she needs a good “spanking” - that she seems “like a catch and her mother should have swallowed instead” - that they can’t take advice from someone on dating sites because that’s the equivalent of “dog shit falling into a doorway” - that this is written by a woman who keeps dating dickheads and is a poor judge of “caricature”

And then there’s all the other generalised anti-women hate speech. That mothers are to blame for their sons, that feminism makes women entitled and all the other rubbish 😂🤮

[–]SadClownProstituteFDS Newbie 145 points146 points  (10 children) | Copy Link

[–]SadClownProstituteFDS Newbie 90 points91 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I really do wonder if, now that she's experiencing the not-so-great side of interacting with men online, she might feel like maybe one woman writing "ass garbage" once was really worth complaining about.

I can't wait for the reinvention in three or six months where she writes an article for Jezebel saying "I spoke up for men, and they attacked me - my experience is unique and dramatic, and I can't believe how much I've changed as a person!"

[–]RowbloksFDS Newbie 141 points142 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]localgirlcultFDS Apprentice 82 points83 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I feel bad because she seems to be an airhead and poor airheads deserve to be rescued too. Even if they do malicious things out of stupidity. I feel bad that she's slow as shit. But the dogpiling I can't really feel completely bad about. She's gotta learn that they aren't her friends, and that she can beg them to pick her and love her all she wants and they still won't. You gotta learn that you're every woman. And since she's so slow, it's gonna take a while. But there's hope. It would be great if she didn't have to learn like this. Anyway, the whole thing was so cringeworthy. I have terrible second hand embarrassment for her.

[–]yolonnyFDS Newbie 3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's belittling and misogynistic to imply her actions are because she's too stupid/vapid to know better. You can criticize her actions without resorting to petty cruelness.

I agree on the second had embarassment. I think a lot of us have been her on some level in the past (I remember reading about feminism on tumblr at 14 years old and agreeing with most of the coddling libfem shit but believing that saying bad things about men will only make things worse and if we just support each other it'll all work out... barf lmao). In that sense her predicament is almost relatable. Then again, most of us wised up early enough not to embarass ourselves the way she did, but with the right circumstances I think many of us could have been in her shoes. I hope one day she will be able to look past on this as a learning experience rather than something that scars her for life. We can be part of that by at the very least being mature in our response and criticizing her actions rather than making low blows about her mental capabilities.

[–]whatismedicineFDS Newbie 7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I also love how she left out the rest of the sentence - pointing out how men literally write us disgusting messages and are creepy!

[–]Salt_SatisfactionFDS Disciple 84 points85 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope throwing your fellow sisters under the bus was worth it, Dominique. When you've finished Cool Girling your way into sacrificing all integrity and self-worth and accepting every possible form of degradation men can throw at you while you smile painfully and pretend to enjoy it and realize that, after all that, men STILL hate you, FDS will still be here.

[–]firenestFDS Newbie 52 points53 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope she learns from this that no amount of appeasing men will make them not hate her; they hate her because she is a woman. If she had signed off that article with a male pseudonym, men would not be dogpiling her with degrading abuse and lots of them would approve of the article. They are braindead and ass garbage.

[–]janeaustenfan99FDS Newbie 8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Hopefully this will be a lesson for her. You can try to be one of the boys all you want and shit on women with them and they'll still hate you. Anybody with reading comprehension skills could come here and see the stark difference in what she represented and the reality of FDS.

But it’s all about agenda and hers was to misinform and misrepresent for the clicks.

Congrats to her for getting the clicks but at what cost ? Because now everyone knows she’s a bum journalist (working for vice was the first bum note, in many to come no doubts) who doesn’t understand in the digital age, if you send a DM that purposefully misrepresents your intent, for the intention of lulling others into a false sense of security and then writing an article based on your own perception , very little source input (retrieved using false intent & narrative of people who seem bitter about getting banned ? ) and any real research and think people won’t screen cap your fake message and show you up or question the validity of your article? Then honey is a fool.

Let’s dead the issue after today because she’s probably reading this and think this is her meal ticket and will try turn it into a vice YouTube docuseries; not quite Democracy Now! or TedTalks level but will generate juuust enough clicks to make her believe she’s not going to be writing a think piece on birthchart dating next month to pay the bills and give her some of that much needed validation kudos from the middle class hipsters, she caters for. Dream big girl.

[–]Lavender_flowFDS STRATEGY COACH[S] 95 points96 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I dont think she has honestly read out Reddit. I think she looked at the handbook and not much further. Other than that neutering article, which is like- How old? and was a protest towards abortion.

[–]advice1988 56 points57 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly anyone can read anything and find something to fit their narrative, just by looking at her social media anyone could find questionable things and spin it to look negative or positive but that’s just lazy ‘journalism’ & a lack of integrity in your own work. If she ACTUALLY read and wrote an article that was unbiased and rooted in the reality; her click bait headline would of been a subversion to the article and would of made a point. BUT she just had to be cheesy and unoriginal and go down a route that shows her up more than it shows FDS up.

I'm cheering for male lurkers that actually take some advice from here. You're doing a great job! Level up bro!

Honestly, she must be stupid/lacking critical thinking skills. I used to be a pickme kinkmeisha who took pride in her blowjob giving technique and wore it like a badge of honor. It took me not even 5 minutes to smash that join button after I opened up the handbook for the first time. It's not that hard.

Man someone smarter than me needs to mirror this article so we aren’t giving her clicks.

The article was an embarrassment. No wonder she went private on twitter.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
