I have seen men complaining about movies "misleading" them into thinking that they can be some nerd nobody and still get a "hot" woman. Thing is this kind of movies/shows are almost always made by men for men. If you look at shows/movies/literature created by women, they usually show different things. I have literally never read a book created by women for women where the female protagonist goes for some loser. The love interest in female media is usually competent, confident, successful etc.
And before someone says that in Harry Potter, Hermione chose the sidekick over the hero, I would like to remind you that the books are quite different from the movies. In the books, Ron was much more competent than he was portrayed in the movies. The movies really dumbed him down for some reason.
Despite all that, men still act as if women specifically were the ones who "lied" to them. They literally act as if there is some female conspiracy to keep men in the dark.

This reminds of another post on FDS where it talked about no matter what the guy looks like he always thinks he deserves top tier beautiful women...

Men always think they are entitled to the cutest pup in the litter.

Yes, the movies made by men for men are dangerous in regards to social scripting, but I think the movies and shows made by men for women are more dangerous.
But Hollywood is what it is. Very intentional and calculating. And people are very easily manipulated by all of it.

The tv show Supernatural was trying to do a spin off. Basically it was going to be called Wayward Sisters. The premise was 2 female cops who were friends and 4 teenage girls living in the same house, fighting various nasties. It was really empowering and about being strong. One of the girls was kinda a pickmeisha in the past and neay got killed because of it. The actresses on the show were great, but it didnt get picked up. Because according the the middle aged men in charge of the CW, women want to watch fluffy crap like Katy Keene.

I have always despised his movies and you hit the nail on the head for the reasoning I couldn't put my finger on before I found this sub . I always attributed it to it being a stoner fantasy thing, but it's also just an lvm fantasy in general

I don't think we can't fault that one because it's the movie concept that she's too good for him.

There is one where a girl catfishes a hot popular guy. Sarah Something Is a Loser. But yes the guy admits he would never have given her a chance without the catfish.

Really?! I am SO tired of sexual incompetence being funny. It’s not cute nor endearing.

Oh god. I’ve never seen this movie, but I’ve been seeing this sex scene trend in a lot of movies recently. The couple passionately kisses for maybe a few seconds. He hikes her up onto a sink or counter. They both remain mostly clothed but I guess he takes his dick out and puts it in her right away. They furiously hump for a minute and it’s implied she loves it. Then it’s over and she hops off the counter and smoothes down her dress. No foreplay, no touching for her, not even any skin contact. Am I crazy or is this a really common scene lately?!

I can definitely appreciate the fact that this scene doesn’t pornify the lead actress, but come on is right. Men already ignore the clit. We don’t need to give them more incentive to continue doing so.

I always thought it was a problem with me when I didn’t enjoy that kind of sex. Now I’ve realised it’s completely unrealistic.

A guy I dated was feeling insecure about his abilities he told me his ex would sometimes take 30 minutes to orgasm and I said that was normal and he kinda snapped at me that I was wrong. I wanted to explain to him that because I don't engage in porn/fantasize anything unloving it often takes 30 min. But his response scared me at the time so I was afraid he'd be mad if he knew if we ever did anything I would also take that long.
If he just accepted that making women orgasm instantly didn't exist then he would feel better about his own abilities. : /

You shouldn’t know anything about his ex’s ability to orgasm....

You really hit the nail on the head with that description. I swear I've seen this exact thing in 90% of mainstream movie sex scenes. I think it's supposed to imply that "heh heh they're just SO HORNY that foreplay is a waste of time lolz"

I swear, if someone were to ask me, “hey, what’s the absolute least erotic sex scene you can imagine barring any violence?” the scene I described above would be right up there.
[–]whatismedicineFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points (0 children) | Copy Link
No it’s really common. I always assumed it’s like a time constraint / can’t be naked thing. It’s alarming that anyone could think this actually is what it should be like..gross.

This is why I am starting to really hate hate hate sex scenes in most movies. I used to roll my eyes when I'd hear old people complain about "the lack of propriety in film" and "some things should be implied and now shown". Nowadays I agree-- people who watch these movies get bizarre notions in their heads about sex and how consent works.

My issue is it's not like "oh he just doesn't know, I'll teach him, and it will be smooth sailing". That never happens. Instead it's like "he's incompetent and dedicated to staying as he is but still wanting a wonderful sex life where his partner comes to screaming orgasms every time with him exactly as he is now."

There's a scene in Knocked Up where he's smoking weed with his friends and the girl calls him and they are making vulgar gestures about him getting laid. Really scary the kind of input given by male writers about what we don't see.
