For example, the woman’s acidity levels, internal body temperature and time of intercourse (sex closer to ovulation increased male sperm surviving) has impact on the swimmers too. By default sperm with X chromosome is known to be able to survive more inhospitable conditions. So sex closer to ovulation helps the fragile Y chromosome have chance to penetrate ovum.

So he may contribute a couple sperm cells, but her body is also picking which ones live. That’s why you’ll see the crazy case where a man will have 7 female children with one woman, and then another woman will come along and boom it’s a boy.
