Adult Film Actor Sentenced to 20 Years for Human Trafficking Conspiracy, Calls Porn Industry ‘Evil Business’

As part of the trafficking plot, Garcia, along with co-defendants Michael James Pratt and Matthew Isaac Wolfe, fraudulently coerced young women to appear in sex videos that were initially presented to them as modeling opportunities, according to a local news report. The videos were then posted online, without the victims’ permission.

The allegations and details of the case are disturbing. As the DOJ press release announcing Garcia’s guilty plea in December details, the women – who were often coerced and intimidated into making sex videos even after saying they didn’t want to – suffered physical injuries. Video shoots, held in hotel rooms or other short-term rentals, often took several hours, not the 30 minutes Garcia had initially promised them. Exits were blocked by camera and recording equipment, and if the victims changed their mind about participating in the video, Garcia and his co-conspirators threatened to sue them, cancel their flights home, or post the footage that was already filmed online, “which, unbeknownst to the victims, was going to happen anyway,” the DOJ said.Garcia not only recruited young women from across the U.S. and Canada to participate in videos that he promised would never be posted online, but he also paid other young women to act as “references” for the websites, believing that potential victims “were more likely to believe other young women.” According to the DOJ, these references falsely reassured reluctant victims that no one would find out that they were in the videos, and they were paid for each victim they tried to recruit (and more for getting them to agree to film a video).Garcia himself was paid “a commission for each victim that he recruited on top of an hourly wage for his time,” according to the DOJ. Garcia also admitted that he and his co-conspirators used aliases and companies with misleading names so that the victims couldn’t make the connection to the GirlsDoPorn website.

Lock his ass up forever!!!

They also sent the videos to the victim's family, coworkers, teachers, etc. to destroy their life and make it harder for them to speak up. Lots of these girls ended up homeless (lost their job, were kicked out by their parents, etc.) and at least one of the girls committed suicide. These guys should have received a life sentence.

[–]Old_Parsnip_3000FDS Newbie 309 points310 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I get that these guys are giant pieces of shit but the gall of some that would fire someone, toss them out of college, kick out of the house over a sex video instead of offering support is sickening.

Like, the shit I see on TV/movies and people get the vapors over a sex tape and blame the victim.

[–]W3remaidFDS Newbie 28 points29 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Sickening on both fronts I agree..

[–]IcefindFDS Newbie 257 points258 points  (12 children) | Copy Link

initially presented to them as modeling opportunities,

Am I just paranoid, or does our media start laying the groundwork for grooming girls very early? We have top model shows, today I saw a seven year old carrying her "top model"-notebook/calendar, bratz dolls and such where the coolest profession ever is being model or a pop star... Basically every little girl dreams of being a model. In reality very few models make a living out of it.

And then there are these skeevy "modeling castings" where they pressure you to strip, and it can go anywhere from yacht girls to trafficing, doing porn, stripping or prostitution.

[–]File-OwnFDS Newbie 155 points156 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

And don't mention even things like Tiktok where it's seen as the "norm" now for underage girls to do sexualised dances for the world to see. Just wtf?

[–]Kkatsh 46 points47 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Any type of jobs related to the fame and media industries wether it's influencer, reality tv star, singers, actors... is a breeding ground for abusers. They're all professions ripe with predators in positions of power because they're the perfect victims: hopeful, vulnerable, uninformed...

There's so much exploitation things like the me too movement only scratched the surface.

The reality is very grim because it's in the interest of victims to stay quiet if they want to keep working. If you report 1 out of 12 directors for sexual assault but 9 out of the 12 won't work with you because they're also abusers and enablers... It's very dissuasive. There's a good reason slut shaming and victim blaming are so common.

[–]NotMyRealName814FDS Newbie 8 points9 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think you're paranoid and people may think I'm crazy for saying this but in addition to "modeling opportunities" used as grooming tools I personally believe that cheerleading in junior high and high schools serves as a grooming mechanism for these young girls. Plus many, many more girls can be picked for cheerleading in school as opposed to modeling jobs. At the very least cheerleading teaches young girls that dressing in skimpy clothing and provocative moves will get the approval from men. And that's a shitty lesson to be teaching our young daughters.

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I recommend a YouTube documentary about how they pick models - 13 year old girls- from Russia, poor rural communities and fly them to Japan for modeling, allegedly.

These girls are sometimes asked to lie about their age, from 13 to 16 or 17. Sometimes they do tons of photoshoots and are not getting paid. Their handlers treat them like live meat

Of you could see in the video how they touch these girls and turn them around like one would touch clothes in a shop.

I wish there would be action taken against the “fake reviewers” too. Women need to start learning to place other women’s safety over the allure of money. Once we’re united against the storm of men’s shit, nothing can stop us, but until then it’s like five steps backwards everytime a woman plays on the opposite field to help herself and hurt countless others.

[–]Peak_TreeFDS Newbie 134 points135 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ditto. Being this sheer level of pick me should come with ( legal) consecuences.

these people also post fake casting calls aimed at young women, i didn't fall for it. And they insist it's not porn when it is! *for acting

[–]Luire-Cendrillon 184 points185 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I was literally always worried when my sister was a teenager- she was the pick-me type that falls for these schemes. A “modeling” recruiter roped her into a job as a cocktail waitress in a strip club at age 18, and the managers and some of the dancers were constantly pressuring her to “dance.” Eventually she left the job because of this pressure, because even though she was gullible, she had some semblance of boundaries.

[–]Wiggy_BopFDS Newbie 19 points20 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

That’s how they get the women to strip. The owners bring them in for a few weeks and then the pressure starts. The strippers wave their cash around, too.

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Any young, sheltered, naive girl could have fallen for that.

[–]Condom-Ad-Don-DraperFDS Newbie 127 points128 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

The documentary Hot Girls Wanted was so difficult to watch but so important! They totally do this to girls

[–]PrincessCritterPantsFDS Newbie 84 points85 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Acting or modelling seems to be their guise. I’ve been approached a few times, and I always got this really..icky feeling, and only one “recruiter” openly said that it could/would eventually lead to more pornographic content (if I desired, apparently). But you know, imagine all the opportunities it will give me! 🙄

[–]osillymez2FDS Newbie 54 points55 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s so flattering when your young and insecure too. “You should be a model”. We are groomed to value our looks above all else as children and it makes so many sheep to the slaughter by manipulative groomers.

[–]thatjimmyloveFDS Newbie 69 points70 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

oh yes being one in the millions of a nude female body for men to sexually exploit and abuse on camera for sexual pleasure is certaintly the land of opportunity !!!! you may even get a coke addiction out of it!

[–]ThunderofHipHipposFDS Apprentice 34 points35 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad your experience worked out well, but let's avoid framing it as "falling for it."

A large, prestigious hospital rarely recruited for positions in my old area. They sent a rep for interviews and put him up in a hotel room, where he would both stay and conduct meet and greets.

I got a call from a recruiter and was a little floored, but couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Men put women in potentially harmful situations that women will enter in hopes of advancing their careers. They don't "fall for" things, they are actively tricked and taken advantage of.

[–]europoor24FDS Newbie 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I just meant that I didn't fall into their trap, I figured it out because the wording was obvious (to me). What your describing seems like the equivalent of getting a nasty surprise in an audition room with no red flags popping up in the casting breakdown.

I'm ESL, and always willing to improve my vocabulary, how else would you phrase not falling into their trap?

[–]ThunderofHipHipposFDS Apprentice 6 points7 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Your written English is stronger than many native speakers, you have a gift for language!

"these people also post fake casting calls aimed at young women, i [luckily know the signs to look out for and wasn't taken advantage of]."

It shifts "fell for" (your fault) to "wasn't taken advantage of" (not your fault). Such a small thing, but shifts the burden of responsibility.

[–]europoor24FDS Newbie 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

thanks! No other way of expressing that came to mind ;)

[–]Aggressive_Birthday4FDS Newbie 138 points139 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

They own pornhub, brazzers, redtube, youporn, among other sites. From their wikipedia article:

In February 2021, a U.S.-based civil class action lawsuit was launched against MindGeek on behalf of child sex trafficking victims whose child sexual abuse material was uploaded to Pornhub. Many journalistic outlets accuse the company of having a monopoly over the online pornography industry, with 3 out of the 10 most popular online pornography sites owned by MindGeek.

I opened reddit to check the covid news for my hometown and this is the first thing I saw. There are tears pouring down my face. I am so upset. I was about to make lunch because I am starving but I know I won't be able to keep anything down for a few hours at least. I am so sick to my stomach. This brings to life everything that was said on the FDS poscast. I am so hurt and so angry at what happened to the victims. I promise will fight for them and our sisters and our future daughters. I'm in nursing school right now and I will make this my mission. Whatever I do in life, it will be to help women. I will die on this ship. Still crying. I wish I could make it stop.

OMG. This actually made me tear up a bit. I remember reading about this a few years ago... maybe 2016? And just feeling so hopeless, desperate, and in despair about how much this world hates women and how there's no one who cares to stop this abuse. There are other horror stories I remember from my days when I monitored the porn scene more (I no longer do because it was too taxing for my mental health, but have SO MUCH respect for Laila and Gail Dines who are truly doing God's work by tracking these monsters) that I would still like to see resolved, but to think that we have come this far, that these pigs will actually be locked up for 20 years for their rape of these women... it's so moving, so amazing, so validating, so uplifting.

We still have a long way to go, but personally, looking back at where we were 5 years ago, when James Deen was everywhere, "kink" and getting slapped around was considered so avant garde and cool, and this was going on, to where we are today... it just seems like such an amazing accomplishment on behalf of all the rad fems (because we know it wasnt libfems) who got us here. I am so happy for all these women and I only hope their healing process will be accelerated by the public acknowledgement that what was done to them was a CRIME and an atrocity

Maybe this will make porn studios realize that preying upon young women does carry legal risk- I would suspect it will. And seeing all the angry men in various comment sections today just puts a huge smile on my face!
