Yeah, but if she wanted more and he didn't, you can guarantee the line would be completely different. All of a sudden the guy will just say they were "hanging out" or "just friends" or that it didn't mean anything because he didn't "ask her out." Men aren't the only ones who get to dictate if something is or isn't a date and/or relationship. GTFOH.

While I don't know how the guy here approached asking her on a date, this is a risk you take when you're wishy-washy about your intentions. If a guy wants to "hang out" and "see where it goes" or even "vibe" before making any move, they shouldn't be surprised when women keep their options open too.

Men need to make it clear that it's a date, first of all. Let's get a beer, let's do this activity... isn't an invitation to date. It's in the handbook. And maybe he gave other signs it wasn't a date..as men often do, by hinting and indicating they aren't looking for anything serious. This girl probably assumed it was ok to share this fact with him, because she assumes they went out as friends..which girl would do this to her date? Mixed signals are a no.
