My ex was a Trump supporter and it definitely contributed to end of our marriage. He really started to go off the deep end after Trump was elected. And the longer Trump was in office, the worse my ex became.

I couldn't say with certainty why it had such a big impact on him. But it seemed like he saw Trump's behavior as a signal that all his basest thoughts, feelings and biases were okay to express and act upon.

He voted for Kerry and didn't hate Obama (though he didn't vote for him). But Trump was just the right type of intentionally offensive. It was bizarre. How do you go from voting for Kerry to voting for Trump?

I won't date someone who likes or even tolerates Trump. It's a red flag for me. The one time I went on a date with someone who liked Trump I didn't know until we actually had the date. I let him talk about his political beliefs but made no attempt to change his mind. I really didn't care and was basically looking for an excuse to leave ASAP. Trying to talk sense to people like that is a waste of time and energy. He didn't say anything shockingly offensive, or I would have just straight up walked out.

I declined when he invited me to a concert and dinner (pre-covid) the following week. It was so weird because I tried to use my kids as an excuse so he would run away in terror since I'm a single mom. But it didn't work! It was so strange. So I just blocked him when he continued to text me. The more disinterested you are/act the more they feel like they have to chase you. This FDS knowledge is absolutely true.

Also he lied about liking cats so fuck that guy. That alone was reason enough not to date him.

I had an ex call me asking to bail him out of jail one time, too! I had broken up with him the year before, in large part because I found out he was a drug user. (Doesn’t make him a bad person, but when it comes to a potential partner, that’s a dealbreaker for me.) He was arrested for possession with intent to sell. He had never been arrested before, so I guess he thought I’d feel sorry for him or something? I laughed my ass off for about 20 seconds and then hung up on him. Never got that stupid request again!

Just as an FYI, if someone is a registered voter you can just google their name and it’ll usually pull up their affiliation. I did it on a guy earlier today that I just started dating.
