Girl, I am 46 and I still see that for guys in my age range. (Usually use 42-50)

Haha, me too when I was on OLD (I'm 40). Delusional man, age: 51, want kids: some day. When is that? When you're being committed to the nursing home!? Also as a child of old parents, I'll tell you, no one wants an 80 yr old dad when they're 25.

For the 90 Day Fiancé fans among us, fifty something Ed used being saying he was open to having children to lure in young Filipina women who did want children. He was lying and did not want children but knew that would put off a lot of young women. I’m guessing the same goes for a lot of men on these sites. There are no end of men who promise their girlfriends and wives that they will have children ‘some day’ and then break up with them just when it’s too late for the women to have their own children and the men almost immediately start a family with a new woman. I cannot fathom the cruelty of stringing along a woman you know wants a family only to dump her when her fertile years have passed.
[–]Magnolia05FDS Newbie204 points205 points206 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Yep, that’s me! The guy I was with through most of my 30’s had 2 kids and didn’t want any more. I was always on the fence about kids. So I was like, ok, as long as we’re going to get married one day and you make me a part of your family I can live with that. Never got married and didn’t break up until I was 39. I think he was ready for the relationship to be over years before I got the hint and left. I 100% resent the fuck out of him for basically taking away my chance to have my own family.

I’m pissed that my own 60 year old father uses this tactic to lure in 22 year old African American strippers (they really are) who want children. And I’m like STOP LYING TO THEM YOU HAD A VASECTOMY !!! 🤮
[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Some of that probably, but also a lot of men have this "children are the property/responsibility of the woman" thing, so them saying "some day" I think often just means "hey, if you want kids, I'll give you some kids, whatever." I've met a LOT of men for whom children hasn't even been a thought because, well, that's for the woman. If she wants kids, he'll have some. If she doesn't, then he won't.
(Yes I've also met men who very specifically want children... but they aren't usually 52 and saying "some day"...)
[–]GalactoseGalFDS Newbie156 points157 points158 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Lmao when I'm 51, my kids will be out the door and I didn't start early by any means.
There's something VERY different about a woman starting her fertility journey "late" (what I know to be completely healthy, 35-40s, when she lined up lots of resources and will probably do just fine) vs. some dude partying until he's 49 & 11 months and then being like oh shit my legacy

Science is also proving that the age of sperm matters as well as far as birth defects etc, so it's definitely not true that men can just have kids 'whenever'
[–]TVsFrankismyDadFDS Newbie64 points65 points66 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Men have depended on the old notion that they can have kids at any age to justify trying to fuck outside their age bracket, so it doesn't matter if they wait until they're 50 or older to have kids. Turns out old sperm a'int so great. Guess men "hit the wall", too, huh?

Some guys do end up being serious about it, like one day they will realize oh shit I better get started. I was “dating” (more like fwb) a guy who was 43, bad idea anyway (I was 25... I think I knew at the time there was no future in it). But then one day he was like, you should quit your job and marry me because I want kids. Wtf. He was the one who kept wanting things casual so it came out of left field. So glad I noped out of there fast. I heard from a mutual friend that he got married like a year after that and they had like 3 kids back to back right away. I hope she’s ok but I’m sure she’s still quite a lot younger than him, I also know he can’t cook for himself at all so she’s probably stuck in the house doing all the chores and taking care of the kids.

Girl, same. We were the same age as you with your boyfriend. Everything good, amazing sex, great sense of humor, healthy af but then suddenly he started dropping hints on wanting to have children.. three months into the relationship?? The funniest thing is that the reason I started dating him in the first place was because he was 43 and without any children so I assumed he; like myself, did not want any lol.

he thinks he's Hugh Hefner without the money.
Most probably had ED and needs viagra.
Probably wants to impregnate a "hot, bangin', smashing" 18-year-old model. or multiple 18-year-olds, at that.
he also wants revenge because the sperm bank doesn't accept low motility sperm carrying genetic disorders.

Yeah my ex was 43 when I left him after leading me on for four years about kids. Last time we spoke of it he said he wasn’t ready and he wanted to adopt 10 year olds when he was 50. I asked him why he was leaving his 3 year olds in the foster system for the next seven years.

Someday is too late. They are living in dreamland. I just posted about sperm quality degrading after 35. I hope my post reaches the women with too little self-confidence, so that they’ll choose to say no to these scrotes for the health of their potential child.
[–]MissDesignDivaFDS Newbie37 points38 points39 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
or just say no to kids entirely, that's also an option. Me personally F just turned 31, never gonna have kids and though it makes dating tough in general, it also weeds out the LV and NV men, lol. Soon as a guy says he want's kids, well that's a no from me. I mean quite frankly, of course all these guys want kids, they don't have to do any of the work physically growing the thing, it's a few minutes (being generous here, lets be real it's usually more like a few seconds) of fun for them, and then their part physically in regards to creating the kid is done.
[–]MyplummmsRuthless Strategist64 points65 points66 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You hit the nail on the head! A lot of men are Kodak parents who want kids for that special snapshot moment of laughs and good times but are otherwise missing in action when it comes to actual parenting. No thanks!
[–]MissDesignDivaFDS Newbie16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly! and a key reason I never will ever have kids. Just not for me. Frankly if I had it my way I'd have my own home based business doing nails (since I'm a trained nail technician) my future HVM husband would do whatever he wants to do work wise, and we'd have a few rescue dogs (Golden Retrievers rescued from South Korea possibly, since Goldens are my favorite breed). But heck no to kids. I mean longer term goal of mine is to live in a self built, tiny house on a trailer, (already have plans for it drawn up by my cousin who is an architect, was one of her portfolio projects to show what she can do) a tiny house since where I live in BC, Canada is prone to forest fires in the summer, being able to just hitch up the tiny house and leave with the entire house is the dream situation when you hear a fire is headed your direction.

These women who end up with these scrotes get pressured and manipulated into having kids. My point was if they’re not going to say “no” to these scrotes for their own welfare, they should at least do it on behalf of this potential kid.

I'm 64. Fit, look much younger. The 60 something- 80 something paunchy, squinty, balding, useless dickwaffles always come swanning up to me acting like they are doing me a favor. Makes me want to scream...Oh....and when I tell them my age (I do that right away knowing it will scare them off), they confirm they want someone in their 40's or younger. Trust me, viagra doesn't help most of these losers.
The last man I dated was 4 years older than me. Short, impotent (even with chemical help), who thought that burning incense while sitting on a cushion with his eyes closed thinking about himself made him spiritual. He kept on telling people laughingly: "she's the oldest woman I've ever dated". I wish I could tell you it gets better with age, but yeah....no, it seriously doesn't.

Yeah - I'm pretty sure there is a reason why my three aunts on my dad's side (all in their 60s-70s) don't date or even entertain men. I highly doubt the dating pool is worthwhile, and at that point, why bother?

it's so unfair. I live in a beach town and see beautiful, fit as fuck women 50-80 on a regular basis. 99.9% of the time the men they are with are short, stooped, hairy, fat, and far, far older looking.

My favorite is a gorgeous, extremely talented friend who is 74. She started dating a guy who was in his mid 70s, balding, overweight, with major medical problems and who speaks with a significantly quavering stammer. His voice makes it hard to understand what he is saying. They broke up because he decided he wanted to find a young woman to have a child with. AS IF! Unbefuckinglievable. For some weird reason, I always have the opposite. Last time I dated was in my late 20’s. I dated men from 33-37 and they all wanted children. I’m childfree 🤦🏻♀️
I even rejected a (seemingly, I know him for a couple of years and he has all the hallmarks) HVM because of it.
Even though he was understanding, most of the other guys always think I’ll ‘change my mind’.
I think most N/LVM will change their tune to whatever they think works to keep you with them. Want kids? Keep her a forever girlfriend, but promise it will happen at ‘the right time’ so she stays because of the sunk costs. Childfree? Let’s tie her to me with a baby.

Lol so true. The best part is a lot of these men are absolutely unqualified to be fathers. Even if I wanted kids, no way in hell would I saddle myself with an incompetent partner. IMO the bar for a partner is much much higher if kids are going to be in the future.

I saw a comment here from someone once saying that they refuse to give their child a terrible father and it honestly stuck with me.
My parents split when I was 1 and I mean I would see my dad on weekends but his lack of effort as a whole was so apparent to me. Not to mention he still managed to be super controlling, rude and CHEAP (the latter ultimately led to me no longer speaking to him). I honestly just think about the shitty things he did to me and I know I NEVER want my child to go through it. I need a man who will be 50/50 with parenting and if I get any hint that they expect me to do all the work I’m gone!

A lot of guys have a fetish of baby trapping a woman. It may be primal instinct or some ridiculous trash (not defending it), but I’ve dated no less than 5 guys who actually attempted to get me pregnant. I also had pregnancy scares with those men who immediately changed their tune and hit the door running.

Hm, maybe because so many pickme women ally with these guys? Thinking that the woman's life will always be improved by a child. I always hear things along the lines of, "well they're not together anymore, but at least she has her kids" no matter how bad the relationship was. So it just seems like it's less of a big deal to people for whom children are always "little miracles" or whatever bullshit, allowing these guys to skate off with no consequences.

I don’t know why they seem unaware of the scientifically proven fertility and genetic risks men over 40 also have. A study came out just the other day on the increased rate in autism from having children with men over 40.

Most editors are men. When it's time to choose medical stories from the wire, they skip over the rotting sperm stories and go for stories about women getting fertility treatments because they waited too long. Men love that fucking narrative...it's one of their favs. People don't realize fertility treatments are sought after often because the guy's sperm is shit. Docs play with their sperm until they come up with something viable. Sperm is cloned over and over again...that's a lot of thinning out over time.

He said no and then said "Oh wait! You think I'm like 40 right? I'm actually 50. I just say that because i prefer women in their early 30s."
Boy bye

Males never have an excuse for “dad bod” because they never actually have the kids! If they can’t get pregnant and carry another human in their body, why are they so fat? As a mom with abs, flabby men disgust me viscerally as there are NO excuses.

Even if work was crazy, the "will you wait for me" line is ridiculous. You aren't going off to Europe to fight the fucking Nazis. He either lets you go completely, makes time for you in his schedule, OR, he still "dates" you but accepts that that you may find a man who actually wants to lock you down (assuming you want to let him). Those are the options.

The sad part is that in most liberal, big cities in the US “Peter Pan syndrome” is alive and well, so women who missed the boat in college/higher ed (the boat being getting a decent boyfriend) are now stuck with a pool of noncommital, eternally youthful, “wanna hang out/chill/watch a movie at my place” types that do nothing except waste our time, use us for sex, and then emotionally gaslight us when we say we want something serious. It isn’t a coincidence that those same men want to magically “settle down” in their mid 30’s when they start having health issues. I have strict dating standards but sometimes it just feels so lonely watching everyone be in a relationship/engaged/married. The reality is men get away with as much as they can because we (both men and women) allow it by pandering to their childish attitudes. They always criticize single women and think something is wrong with us if we are still single by a certain age yet for whatever reason they don’t do the same thing towards men
[–]bonoboproblemFDS Newbie93 points94 points95 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is exactly what I’ve been seeing in my big city dating experience. I thought that they’d have grown up by now. I’m 40 and am new to the dating scene after a LTR, and they’re still pulling the same “go with the flow, see how it goes” BS that I endured in my 20s. This time I know not to fall for it.
[–]cherrypollenFDS Newbie154 points155 points156 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Wow. This explains everything I hate about living/dating in a progressive big city. I thought dating would be easier because there were more people, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Peter Pans/ lost boys everywhere and here I am refusing to be their Wendy.
[–]leftcornerofmychairFDS Newbie73 points74 points75 points 3 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Why do you think this Peter Pan syndrome is so common now? Men from other cultures even in their 20s seem far more mature than men in their 40s in my current city.
[–][deleted] 103 points104 points105 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Because we let it become like this. I hear people say “oh but life is more expensive now” but life has always been hard. I really doubt a man growing up during the Great Depression was asking women to “just see where things go” or saying shit like “I’m not ready for a serious relationship right now” while having a series of casual sex encounters everywhere. The reality is our culture encouraged this behavior. In the 50s and 60s it was expected for Americans to get a job, get married, and start a family. Then the hippies came and said they didn’t want that (and hey, fair enough, not everyone wants that) and decided to do the whole free love thing instead. Then they realized that wasn’t sustainable and all those kids produced needed a stable family so they, too, got jobs and settled down, either through marriage or not. In any case, starting from then people dated and it was assumed when you went on three or more dates with someone and as soon as sex was involved you were a couple. Then social media came along, Facebook had a “relationship status” option and everyone felt pressured to define things, casual sex and hookup culture took off because of “sex positivity” and dating apps came along. So all this means we have millions of potential people to date at our fingertips, giving us the illusion of choice. So men can be Peter Pans since they have the illusion (or maybe it is real) of lots of women who will sleep with them without wanting a relationship. So why should he grow up? He gets (seemingly) easy sex all the time, without the hassle of being in a relationship, and since women want to be in a relationship more than men (there are studies on this that back this up) he knows his “dating pool” is large enough that he can dive in at whatever time (it actually isn’t but this is a man’a point of view).
Peter Pan Syndrome is here because we allowed it to be here. There is zero social pressure to actually date a woman or even (god forbid!) get into an actual relationship. Men really only want us when they need us, ie for sex or to take care of them. Whereas women want men because we want them, not because we need them.
[–]coneyislandchaos47 points48 points49 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Also the notion about “anyone can be famous” gives guys unrealistic ideas about following their dreams, so you have 40 year olds thinking they can be rock stars if only the right person would hear their version of Living on a Prayer. And when that happens they don’t want to be tied down! They want to be ready to go on tour! I don’t think this concept of “you can be anything” was that prevalent in prior generations.
[–]Ok_Satisfaction1911FDS Newbie13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Frame this! True history. People married in wars, economic depressions, both 19 but committed to take on the world together. Yes - there were bad marriages - but dedication and decisiveness in romance is truly a dying art.
[–]fairywakesFDS Newbie11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah! Far more mature. Currently dating and vetting a 25 year old from overseas who has a masters and is pursuing more school while making 100k - he is the most mature and decisive man I’ve ever met compared to the horrific average US population of men 23-30 I’ve dated. He knew exactly what he wanted (ie, me) and never even suggested causal. Not all men from overseas are like this, some are as bad to be honest, but ones who come from great struggle seem to be less on the “go with the flow” bull shit.

You are very lucky. It only gets harder to get a quality man. 30 year olds aren’t magically more mature or more willing to get into a relationship. I wish I were married just so I wouldn’t have to go on dates anymore, but sadly life didn’t work out that way.

Kind and friendly request to rethink your phrasing of "missed the boat". While maybe I'm sensitive because this could apply to me 😂, I do think this phrasing puts the men as "the prize" that some of us women "missed" out on during uni. (When in reality it's the other way around 😌)
As other commenters have pointed out, it's not that simple and there's also a lot of hookup culture and immaturity at unis. Furthermore and in particular, this phrasing in my opinion perpetuates the scarcity mindset (in an anti-women way, not a helpful way) and is therefore not in line with most of FDS. We should be asking ourselves why there are not more HVM, yes, sure, but at any/every age, and in the meantime we focus on ourselves and our careers and our friendships, and dating, not looking back at some fantasy that could have been.
You're right. I think it is harder only because you aren't surrounded by so many people all the time. In college you meet more organically, ie from actually knowing people, going out, and socializing. It is so easy to do it when you are surrounded by people your age and in your part of life, whereas afterwards everyone scatters to the wind and work takes up a huge part of your life. It is harder only because we are more isolated after school. I like my career and friendships, but I want a life partner as well. I have to do everything on my own and some days it is just so hard. You want someone who will help share that burden, but most millennial men just want to share a bed and nothing else.
I try to stay positive but it seems like most people have found their significant other already; and yes we don't know how happy or unhappy these relationships truly are but I am just tired of being alone and feeling like I have to "prove myself" to men just to enter into a relationship. These exclusive/dating/bf and gf labels are just hoops we have to jump through so that men can gage if they "really" want to be with us or not and I am just tired of playing this BS dating game. Most women I know support this nonsense, except FDS (thank god). LVM are 90% of men out there, and sadly they aren't always easy to spot. HVM have always been a rare commodity; it is up to us as society to push male standards higher, but so far we aren't doing that. I truly think women have an innate drive whereas men just go through life pushed by external factors.

My dad is 50, a serial cheater and deadbeat, a womanizer and user. He’s let himself go and has medical issues. He called me last year asking if I know any young, hot, “Latina or Hispanic women” that would be interested in him (we’re Black)
Even if I did know any women that fit his description, no woman deserves that. And he really thinks that he wouldn’t have to spend money either because like I said, he a cheap deadbeat.

Men now have half the sperm counts of their fathers, likely because the world is far more toxic than it once was. Basically, the more years a man has on earth, the more time he has to soak up the mutagenic shitstorm. This also has ramifications for physical and cognitive health and longevity.
Of the 50k or so poorly regulated new chemicals in daily circulation, it's known that the vast majority are more toxic to males because testosterone severely inhibits methylation while estrogen is protective. An exception to this are certain fracking chemicals which are more toxic to females. Word to the wise: don't live near fracking operations and date health-conscious men.
If men seem to be generally acting like an endangered species these days, it could be because they are. But naturally rather than putting blame where it belongs for their increasing fragility (regulators and big, bad, scary chemical companies), many blame women.

This is important information, thank you for passing this over! I had no idea tbh, but I do want to inform other ladies on the same topic: if you're a crafter be careful of silk dyes, epoxy, resin and vinyl. Cricut Tees are cute and all, and so are vinyl decorative boards but the material is very toxic and none of the listed should be near food nor, when working with, breathed in
[–]Emergency-Feed8216FDS Apprentice2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good points. We can't control every exposure but it pays to develop enough science literacy to be able to deep-dive into independent research on various chemical crap and toxic practices and not believe media defenses in an age when chemical companies basically own the media and fund most research hospitals.
Environmental Working Group is still a good science and toxicity review org. Unfortunately the once-stellar independent science review body, the Cochrane Consortium, was bought out by Bill Gates who never met a chemical he didn't love (and invest in). Just look at the guy. He looks like he drinks glyphosate cocktails with a splash of mercury salts.
