Men will watch movies written by men like Star Wars/Captain Marvel then say that women in the movie suck because they're badly written and women ruin everything. Guess men just suck at making movies then?

[–]ItsFreezenFDS Newbie54 points55 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Good point.

[–]GioTekk6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Captain Marvel was written by women.

[–]seashellseashell52FDS Newbie163 points164 points  (24 children) | Copy Link

Anyone watch the mindy project? Definitely not as comedic as the office, but it’s a super funny rom com show. Cracks me up from time to time

[–]madamejesaistoutFDS Newbie28 points29 points  (14 children) | Copy Link

I really want to watch it but it's not available on Netflix or Amazon Prime or Hulu! I can't pay for yet another streaming service... :(

[–]SaltKoalaFDS Newbie37 points38 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s definitely on Hulu, it’s a Hulu original

[–]madamejesaistoutFDS Newbie6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Weird, my mom just got Hulu and I thought I searched for it, but apparently I didn't

[–]andersdnFDS Newbie6 points7 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Are you outside the US? I watched it on hulu maybe a month ago.

[–]madamejesaistoutFDS Newbie4 points5 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah apparently I only thought I searched for it on Hulu and didn't actually search for it.

[–]andersdnFDS Newbie11 points12 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I love the response you received after saying you thought you couldnt watch it. Lmao, we got you sis. And props to you to responding to all of us.

[–]madamejesaistoutFDS Newbie11 points12 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

This sub is the best, only place I feel confident posting because I know I won't be insulted for making an honest mistake!

[–]andersdnFDS Newbie7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yassss. Good grief. Those typical reddit responses are LVM showing you who they are.

[–]jesymix14FDS Newbie1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

damn really? Hulu took it on a few years ago so it's technically a "Hulu original," maybe it's only regionally available?

[–]madamejesaistoutFDS Newbie4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Nope, apparently I was wrong about it not being on Hulu, so I'm going to start watching it!

[–]seashellseashell52FDS Newbie1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

In the US the show is available on Hulu! Just rewatched it last month actually. ☺️

[–]madamejesaistoutFDS Newbie1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Really? Yay!

[–]kikyo143FDS Newbie0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m not sure where you live but it’s on Netflix in Canada

[–]PoeticINFPFDS Newbie0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It used to be on Netflix :(

[–]enharmoniaFDS Newbie7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes! So funny...Danny is such a misogynistic dick though

[–]Triette6 points7 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

She’s a great writer but I just don’t like her acting. That show was unwatchable to me. :(

[–]seashellseashell52FDS Newbie4 points5 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Totally fine! It’s got it’s picky moments for sure.

[–]andersdnFDS Newbie13 points14 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

The only parts that are hard for me to watch are when they make fun of her weight. Mindy is gorgeous and curvy and a fucking queen.

[–]seashellseashell52FDS Newbie6 points7 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes I agree. That’s probably the only issue I have with the writing. Just bc someone is curvy doesn’t mean they’re constantly eating or can’t keep themselves from digging a donut out of the trash.

[–]andersdnFDS Newbie3 points4 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Right? And she probably wouldn't look like she does if she had those kind of impulses.

[–]seashellseashell52FDS Newbie2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Spoiler Alert

Yeah pretty much. Like when she’s experiencing morning sickness and the doc says she ate a plastic wrapper so she must have a stomach of steel.

Eh. 3/10 for that line.

[–]andersdnFDS Newbie2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea if you're eating cellophane you have a bigger problem than cravings or morning sickness.

[–]diflorusFDS Newbie52 points53 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Her new show Never Have I Ever on Netflix is also hilarious!

[–]MisandryFTWFDS Newbie127 points128 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

"Pickle Rick" is generally considered the best episode of Rick and Morty. Guess who wrote it? Jessica Gao.

[–]sorry_MrWest_is_goneFDS Newbie4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

the best episode? the only watchable part of that is the therapist monologue

not trashing the woman who wrote it, i love that monologue, but it's seriously considered the best???

[–]MisandryFTWFDS Newbie2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

generally considered

Definitely not my favorite at all and I agree with the monologue being the only watchable part.

[–]ISIPropaganda0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s the most famous and memorable, but definitely not the best.

[–]VodkaFairyFDS Newbie24 points25 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I feel like men don't have to be able to relate to enjoy the vast majority of media so they don't.

It's why anything other than straight white male media has to be classified. Like chick flicks? Anything from dramas to rom coms just starring a female lead. We don't call shoot em up action movies that appeal to the male power fantasy dick flicks even though they're just as generic as a rom com. But everything from steel magnolias to the blandest romantic comedy is a woman's movie.

[–]just_takin_the_dFDS Apprentice5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Dick flicks haha. If they wouldnt get some weird ego boost from me calling movies " dick flicks", I 100% would!

[–]greenbeanbirdFDS Newbie66 points67 points  (11 children) | Copy Link

Or, worse, Rick and Morty D:

I think it's alright but the way men /fawn/ over it and tout it as 'peak intellectual comedy'? Barf.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

To be fair you really do have to be a man to understand the nuances of "Pickle Rick" and "wubba lubba dub dub." The average woman wouldn't get it. /S

[–]meezapizzaFDS Apprentice[S] 34 points35 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

I'd agree with them and call it one of the best tv shows ever because of it's intelligent humor. How they'd make fun of Jerry, a LVM. (If we have to mention something FDS related here)

[–]greenbeanbirdFDS Newbie37 points38 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Oh, thanks for your reply because I realize I misunderstood the point of the original post! :D

To that end, I believe that men's idea of comedy is more rooted in casual sexism and the ability to tear others down to the point of it becoming tired. To that end, if they don't want to admit that comedy written by women offers a different perspective and is objectively funnier they must have some hangups.

[–]meezapizzaFDS Apprentice[S] 3 points4 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I didn't understand what you're trying to say but I know for a fact that Rick and Morty is far from sexist. If we want gender equality or equity, we need to make sure we appreciate them for their good work too. I absolutely hate LVM but I believe in HVM and that we women create both of these categories. We decide how a person treats us. Irrespective of their gender.

[–]greenbeanbirdFDS Newbie21 points22 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

I was trying to say that men seem more at ease with comedy 'made by men' and seem loathe to admit women are funny because they would need to examine what they find tired/sexist about standard male comedy.

Thank you for bringing that excellent point to my attention! It's been a while since I've watched R&M but I remember Beth and Jerry's marriage being a particular sticking point of mine (the Alternative Universe viewing headset and the Therapy episode come to mind). However, I now realize that the narrative may be less of a condemnation of Beth and more a commentary on poor marriages and their impact on a family unit in general. To that end, the creators did have the episode about an advanced female race who completely sealed themselves off from their male counterparts and were having a lovely, peaceful time.

[–]throw2422FDS Newbie3 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn't really take it as a condemnation of Beth, more like a condemnation of Jerry who is the definition of a LVM/NVM, and what a bad marriage can do.

However men who idolise R&M, and particularly Rick as a person are to be avoided at all costs. I think they have some kind of admiration/closeted attraction to the vibe Rick gives, they want to have that same vibe. Of course, since they're not geniuses or even funny, they're just gross.

[–]greenbeanbirdFDS Newbie0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I love these points! Yep, the vibe that they want by idolizing that show is just...eugh

[–]--wellDAM--FDS Apprentice16 points17 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Mindys book is funny too. I’m a fan.

[–]VodkaFairyFDS Newbie4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

She has two books and they're both funny! I'm a big fan of her work.

[–]DelicateDreamFDS Disciple14 points15 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s because ugly, broke men want to believe “making a woman laugh” is the only quality they need to have to get laid. How nice for them they feel their worth can be solely about personality.

So yeah, women being humorous “steals” their one little thing they think they possess to impress women (as if it’s a competition and funny women don’t like funny men; but they have to be “better”. Same reason they don’t typically like women who earn more money).

[–]NovemberinthechairFDS Apprentice1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, this is truth. And these guys aren't really funny and don't have great personalities. Having a dick and not being handsome doesn't mean you have a sublime sense of humor.

[–]AdawritesrulesRuthless Strategist24 points25 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

The men that say “women aren’t funny” are often the same men who can’t follow women’s jokes since they have damaged brains from hypofrontality caused by porn use. Facts hurt scrotes.

[–]VodkaFairyFDS Newbie7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I also think they don't expect women in real life to be making jokes since "women aren't funny" so they don't catch on.

[–]noavocadoshereFDS Newbie32 points33 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

if someone said to me, "you can only pick one comedian to watch for the rest of your life," my answer would be wanda sykes, hands down. i've known so many hilarious women who can go from sharp, witty one-liners to humor drier than a slice of toast to delivering exaggerated stories filled with voices off the top of their head. a majority of men's humor is usually crude and mean-spirited--it's the verbal equivalent of drawing dicks on a desk.

[–]just_takin_the_dFDS Apprentice2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

One of my exes said "women aren't funny" and "men can't be friends with women, they just see them for sex". Waving them red flags in my face, yet I still slept with him 🤡

[–]grand_tiremasterFDS Newbie5 points6 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I think The Office and other related shows (parks and recreation, for example) are terribly unfunny and boring. I never saw the appeal.

Just like I don't find stand up comedians to be funny. The last couple of movies that really made me laugh were Borat and Bruno. Different kind of humor I guess?

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I don’t understand why you’re being downvoted. I love The Office but you just have a different kind of humor. It happens. It’s not a bad thing.

[–]grand_tiremasterFDS Newbie5 points6 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Its the first time I've been downvoted in this sub, lol.

I honestly don't find a lot of comedy movies or shows to be funny. Some are entertaining yes, but I won't be crying from laughter.

I find Youtubers to be more funny-- I LOVE the prankcall channels. Now those crack me up. There's this one Youtuber who messes with Indian scammers by pretending to be an old lady. How he wastes their time and gets them so angry, its hilarious to me. It's just a different kind of humor!

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

People don’t want to accept some won’t laugh to the same things as them. Good for you though to stay yourself instead of pretending just to fit in. Proud of you!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
