She’s got a group called LeadHER to develop young women into successful leaders and role models.

You know when dudes jump up and yell and cheer at football games? This is me doing that now.

AND she’s sitting in South Carolina. One of the worst, most racist, offensively confederate states. Let’s have more jasmines.

I love seeing more and more women (especially black women and other WOC) rise high in our society and make it into these important positions of power and authority. And a bunch of them are so young, too! It's unprecedented. It's sad that we're only now beginning to see it in 2020, but baby steps I suppose.

I can't wait til seeing old fucking white men in power everywhere isn't the norm anymore.

[–]myousernameRuthless Strategist141 points142 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

When I was in uni, the most ambitious, driven, hardworking, smartest women were nearly all WOC.

I can see why white men be shitting their pants whingeing about feminism "going to far" and "all lives matter" and "diversity = bad" and all that bullshit. Those boys are just too lazy and incompetent to compete with these ladies.

[–]HaveNoIdeaWhatToPickFDS Newbie59 points60 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

THIS. They complain about being discriminated at university, but they don't do anything at all, barely showing during lectures (yes, the exact ones that complain about feminism). They expect to get all the pros that hardworking women do without moving their finger.

[–]myousernameRuthless Strategist8 points9 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Soooo true haha. I knew so many guys who were straight C- students, never went to lecture, half assed literally every paper and assignment, didn't start studying for exams until 10 PM the night before the exam, yet would complain how hArD iT iS fOr wHiTe MaLeS to get good internships and scholarships.

I knew one guy who wanted to be a police officer and he had the nerve to complain "they are literally not hiring white men anymore, only women and minorities, even though they're not qualified". Like... bro. First of all, I see many young white male police officers, so clearly they are still getting hired. Second, why are you assuming that women and minorities aren't qualified? Third, the police force isn't gonna hire you because you're a lazy simpleton with a 2.0 GPA, it has nothing to do with being white or male.

Just go to any library on a friday or saturday night. Most of the people there will be women and POC. White dudes are either out partying, or trying to score on tinder, or at home playing video games, or jerking off to abuse porn.

It's funny how almost always the laziest men are the ones that complain about women and feminism the most lol. The ones in my group that are very responsible and hard-working never complained and always attracted a lot of women (not only as love interests but also friends). They weren't particulary good looking but their kind, responsible nature was their charm. On the other hand all the lazy-asses no matter how handsome always had difficulty finding a partner and they complained about "feminists" all the time, blaming them for their unhappiness.

[–]buffalocoinzFDS Newbie12 points13 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

The only people who complain about diversity in the workplace are mediocre white males.

[–]advicethrowawayyys14 points15 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Did she get hired straight out of law school or how did this work? Not in law but curious.

[–]cirrus_cloudRuthless Strategist75 points76 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

The look of pride in her eyes πŸ‘‘β€οΈ love this!!

[–]SergeantBentonFDS Newbie30 points31 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I personally don't agree with this. Judges should have a law degree, bar passage and experience in the court room, how can she POSSIBLY fairly judge cases when she has zero experience or knowledge on criminal law? While women should be praised for getting jobs like this, I don't think we should be praising something that seems so irresponsible. There's a reason why lawyers have to go to law school and pass the bar, just like medical doctors. This whole criminal justice system needs to be changed.

[–]watchyourspeedFDS Apprentice29 points30 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a lawyer and I'm with you 100%. I have to go to law school & pass the bar in order to represent someone in court, but the judge who decides their fate can be just a couple years out of undergrad?? I view this as less of an achievement for women & more of a failure of the judicial system.

And for anyone saying "I'd rather it be her than some [equally unqualified] old white man," you're missing the point, which is to focus on one's professional qualifications and not their race/gender/age.

This is considered hate speech on Reddit.

WOW! I cannot imagine what kind of obstacles she faced on her way there. Her hard work and dedication led her to literally break a record. Queen energy! πŸ‘‘πŸ‘‘πŸ‘‘πŸ‘‘πŸ‘‘

[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple6 points7 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Whoa, 25?! It’s hard to even have your law degree by that age let alone rocketing to the bench! Thrilled to hear she’s spreading the motivation too!

ROLE. MODEL.

[–]Shrimpy_monstersFDS Newbie13 points14 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

She’s not a lawyer

[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh! My mistake, that was an assumption on my part. I just read her wiki. Everything else stands. :)

[–]Macapta3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Good for her

[–]vietnamese-bitchFDS Newbie18 points19 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

This is awesome. I can feel a bunch of racist scrotes, supremacists and the kkk foaming out of their mouths already at this news. Hopefully she ignores any of those backlash. Get entitled, middle aged white men out of power.

[–]CurvyAnnaFDS Newbie34 points35 points  (11 children) | Copy Link

How did this happen? At 25, you barely have experience in law - how the fuck are you qualified to be a judge?!

We can be pro-women without being fucking idiots. This post is pro-idiocy.

[–]Shrimpy_monstersFDS Newbie27 points28 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

She has no law degree, has never practiced law

[–]AnniaTFDS Disciple9 points10 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

That's weird. What is the criteria to appoint judges then, if they don't have law background? How do they choose? I'm curious.

[–]Shrimpy_monstersFDS Newbie14 points15 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

There’s a link elsewhere on this comment section. It’s some quick course. Then you can ruin people’s lives

[–]watchyourspeedFDS Apprentice17 points18 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I am a female lawyer and I concur. This was my immediate thought. It is INSANE to me that some states elect judges because it politicizes a position that should not be political in any way. Usually it ends up being a racist old white man who runs on a "tough on crime" platform, which disgusts me. However, I think having a 25 year old non-lawyer (or non-lawyer of any age, to be frank) is just as concerning. It's no commentary on her as a successful woman, and maybe she is a good judge, but there needs to be a higher bar for who can sit as a judge.

Our system in Colorado is excellent. We have a commission which is bipartisan and filled with lawyers and non-lawyers. They recommend judges to the governor who then appoints them. An oversight committee reviews the judges periodically (every 4 years?) and publishes summaries for voters, who vote to either retain or not retain the judges. I believe you must be admitted to the bar (which means you have to have gone to law school).

[–]adajoanaFDS Newbie3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm just happy I'm not the only one noticing this.

A 25 yo doesn't have the life experience needed to be a judge.

[–]PahapanFDS Disciple3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

She completed a training program and passed a certification examination. I can understand the argument that a judge should have to have a law degree and some experience, but if this is the criteria South Carolina has in place then I'd rather it be taken advantage of by young black women than old white men. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

And honestly, even with a law degree most lawyers and judges have to constantly look up laws and legal precedence because there is so much information that it's impossible for the human brain to contain. That's why the stereotypical lawyer's office has floor to ceiling bookcases filled with thick ass books. Once someone has the basics down it's more about constantly doing homework.

Is the degree and experience really about ensuring someone is well vetted or is it more about controlling what type of people typically get to become lawyers and judges? Because a 25 year old (even without a law degree) is, imo, just as capable of researching a case as a 55 year old, and arguably she'll probably do it more effectively because she'll be more technologically savvy.

And if you actually look at what's going on across this country, judges routinely and fragrantly abuse their position to push their own views with zero regard for legality. Like Keith Bardwell who in 2009 refused to marry an interracial couple. A law degree and experience guarantees absolutely nothing.

[–]telejournalFDS Newbie-5 points-4 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm a bit bothered by the amount of comments in here asking/doubting for this women's position. I highly doubt these people would do this if this weren't a BW featured.

[–]watchyourspeedFDS Apprentice9 points10 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a lawyer. I'd have the same position if this were a 25 year old white woman/man/dog/alien. If you don't have a law degree and haven't passed the bar exam, you shouldn't be a judge. It has nothing to do with her in particular, it's a commentary on the completely fucked judicial system.

Next. Surgeons that had a 3 month intensive workshop.

[–]LAM_humor1156-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I love knowing my small town can make decisions like this. She deserves all the success in the world. It is so good to see!

This is what we need more of right here, strong, ambitious women in power.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
