True!
But is there any teen boy magazines? Aren't those just porn magazines?
[–]CB4lifeFDS Newbie 208 points209 points210 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I visited a country in South America and there was a weekly magazine with news and analysis articles (kind of like the economist) except in the middle there was a freaking centerfold of the woman of the week with a photo of her in scantily clad clothes (like lingerie). It was basically soft core porn in what should have just been a regular magazine. It’s crazy (and sad) how ubiquitous misogyny is.

This article was several years ago, so yes there are and yes its terrible.

[–]jugularlemonadeFDS Newbie 24 points25 points26 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, sometimes it’s depressing we’re stuck here while people destroy the planet and make life for women worse and worse.

That’s infuriating. For those who can’t see due to the paywall: Magazine covers
[–]Connect_Chipmunk_691FDS Newbie 15 points16 points17 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thank you for this! I really wanted to see what they were! This is completely infuriating and when I was in Middle School or high school I was very excited to see Sassy magazine come out. They did not use models but they used regular looking girls and women and they had articles about all kinds of issues in addition to the fun stuff and the fashion stuff. I don't know if it stayed like that for its entire run but for the first couple of years that I got it it was an amazing magazine and it was very different from the other teen magazines of the day for girls.

Teen boy “magazines” are the chive and reddit
[–]CSardothien_1FDS Newbie 59 points60 points61 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
EW the Chive!! Back in my college pick-me days I would look at the chive with my ‘guy friends...’ 😷 vomit. So glad I don’t know her anymore 💅🏼

Oh my, what is the Chive?
[–]W3remaidFDS Newbie 10 points11 points12 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s basically reddit but .. less interesting? Haven’t been there in a while but it’s the same type of idea, also digg if that’s still around
[–]Connect_Chipmunk_691FDS Newbie 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Back when Teen Vogue was transitioning to being just a website and no magazine, they wrote about teaching you how to feel pleasure from anal sex about two years ago. Just search and you’ll see what I mean.
I used to love reading Teen Vogue when I was an actual teen and as I got older. Color me surprised when they are suggesting a very hardcore physical act to presumably inexperienced young women. Fucking disgusting.

I remember the outrage raised over that article! That was completely insane! And they're minors!
A few years ago I got lots of backlashing over something I posted on Facebook. It was an article talking about a sex ed book that was going to be on the library shelves at an elementary school and it was aimed at 4th graders. This book taught them how to put condoms on and how to give themselves an o! Fourth graders do not need to know those things! I had all kinds of people lashing out at me about what a prude I was being and how not everybody gets sex ed at home etc etc and the majority of them were completely missing the point about how age inappropriate that was! Even if it was just being made available in the library by being there!
[–]ThesociodarkFDS Newbie 25 points26 points27 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
My only con to this is that a lot of kids get exposed to pornography at around 4th grade, especially boys. I remember that in that age I didn't even know what they were talking about, but now I know that they were watching porn. Just my opinion tho, I will take the downvotes if necessary haha.
[–]Connect_Chipmunk_691FDS Newbie 19 points20 points21 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
There's a book called Bad Pictures Good Pictures which is supposed to be a really good way of talking to kids about pornography and Internet safety. I think they have one that's geared for younger kids and then one that geared towards the older kids.
The book that I mentioned, from all the parts of it that I was able to see, was wildly inappropriate and was more of a grooming thing in my opinion. I seriously hate how proactively they're pushing this stuff on our kids!
[–]ThesociodarkFDS Newbie 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Oh that's a different matter! At first I had a child-friendly book in mind, like the first one you mentioned.
[–]Connect_Chipmunk_691FDS Newbie 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh yeah! Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. I was trying to be delicate because honestly it just makes me gag that children are exposed to that stuff or that adults want to expose them to those things so just even mentioning it is difficult. 💔

Teen Vogue is the plague for young women.
[–]MACMUAFDS Apprentice 316 points317 points318 points 2 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
It absolutely disgusting to me.
I see young ladies trying to glamorizing being a sugar baby or having only fans on Tik Tok. I also see strippers who look ‘happy counting their ones’ on Tik Tok too.
Stop trying to push this narrative that it’s fun and easy money. Girl, why don’t you post vids of the gpa balls you have to play with for that money? Why don’t post how a mans wife is about to beat you cause your being labeled as a home wrecker? How come you don’t post vids of you making out with bootleg version of Stan Lee for that $160.00 sis????????????????????
STOP TRYING TO GLAMOURIZING THIS BULL SH!T
[–]SpittensFDS Newbie 213 points214 points215 points 2 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
Strippers counting ones? That is absolutely NOT a flex.
Just this weekend I made $2400 cash running a load of specialty lumber up to the Chicago area. Took me one 18 hour day lol. And I did it in my yoga pants and tennis shoes, belting out opera and chatting on the phone with my mom the whole damn time. I didn't have to strip or let some gross scrote(s) touch or look at my fine self for it.
Maybe I should start a tiktok or YouTube channel detailing all the ways a driven gal can make money that will pay way better than sex work 🤔
[–]xdecadentFDS Newbie 71 points72 points73 points 2 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
You should def make that channel! I’d watch. I’ve been researching the trucking/transport industry and I’m intrigued.
[–]SpittensFDS Newbie 111 points112 points113 points 2 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Well, my dad owns a small trucking company and he will ask me to fill in whenever he's not able to do one of these runs, usually about 1-2 each month. They're never more than 2 days worth of time on the road. But I've been operating trucks & heavy equipment since I was a kid and I got my CDL the day I turned 21.
I do a lot of other stuff that makes good money too, this is just what I did this weekend. I also do fab work, construction salvage and resale, and sell on Amazon. Since I'm not even trying to date nor do I have kids or a worthless man-child at home, I fill my time with my side hustles. Just me, the cat, and my horses. Life is much better that way lol.
My current goal is to have the house I'm building at least 75% paid for when it's finished. So far I've got it framed, about to be sheathed and roofed and it's 100% paid for. The cash I made this weekend paid for the fancy front door I ordered 😁

[–]eatnthrowtrashawayFDS Newbie 39 points40 points41 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There’s a huge trucking shortage and trucking companies prefer women drivers as it’s rare and looks good on papers. There’s sexism like there is at any job but as op says it isn’t as dangerous as promoting sex work to teenagers.
[–]SpittensFDS Newbie 9 points10 points11 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Any company that uses (expensive) equipment prefers women operators because they take better care of and are easier on the equipment, as well as the reasons you mentioned.
[–]yehet420FDS Newbie 53 points54 points55 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I am an ex-SW and I had the idea of starting an OF (you don’t have to post porn content on it) teaching young women about other ways to make money during COVID or just whenever, really. I now work in sales making 60-80K a year. I hate the way SW is being romanticized now as the trendy side hustle for young girls to start as soon as they turn 18 😞
[–]SpittensFDS Newbie 29 points30 points31 points 2 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Even as a side hustle, literally ANYTHING makes better money than OnlyFans.
Like, working a part-time minimum-wage job makes better money.
You absolutely should. Let's reach as many of these young girls as we can before they make such a stupid decision! Problem I see (mind you I have no idea how only fans works, never used it or researched it more than what's been mentioned here) is that mostly men will see it because those are the users. Unless content creators also do 'research'?
Edited because my tired self hit the post button trying to shift my phone around.

It is bizarre: too bizarre? On another thread, a poster posited that this stuff is actually paid advertising. Which sounds plausible, doesn't it? We already know influencers are paid to promote products, we already know pimps were involved in pushing the 'sex work' narrative, and we know they can make prostituted women act as their front to do that. TikToks look full of very young women/girls who, well, have they actually had plastic surgery, even? Not just regular-seeming girls. Some young women genuinely falling for it doesn't necessarily mean they weren't exposed to advertising first.
The internet is a trap.

I'm seeing more and more "random" attempts throughout the rest of Reddit in the more mainstream subs to try and badmouth this sub in attempts to get it banned. Just a quick FYI. As always, they think they're being so subtle and "grassroots", like the Russians during a U.S. Presidential Election or something, but (as always) they are conspicuous as hell.

Do people even read magazines anymore? I’m 20 and I don’t. Even when I was a teen I didn’t. Just the occasional search online would bring me to teen vogue or whatever but it wasn’t a regular thing.
[–]phiksirhoFDS Newbie 33 points34 points35 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I never really did but sometimes if I got confused as a teen girl and wanted to see what was "normal" in sex and made you a "good girlfriend" I'd search the internet and be led to internet content like that. I started to believe anal was normal and cool and started practicing with my tooth brush to reduce my gag reflex. Again, as a teen... This was influencing how I thought about sex.
Never did anal or anything like that but it could have easily happened if someone was pushier about it. Sickening honestly.
[–]LaVeraeFDS Newbie 27 points28 points29 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't have to be print magazines. Can be websites, online news portals, blogs etc.
[–]MadameDestructionFDS Newbie 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I am also 20 and I still read magazines until quite recently. I usually picked one out during my stay at the library and put it back after I read it. As a younger kid (pre-English knowledge so prob before age 12) me and my friends hung out at the library after school. We'd always read one such teen girl magazines that had a section dedicated to giving sex advice that had people writing in their craziest sex concerns and get their questions answered, a lot like you can find on reddit nowadays. The magazine preached consent and also gave direct tips on how best to suck your boyfriend off... When I was older (13-15) I was a 1D fan so I had a subscription to one magazine for the weekly posters. Since then I've been into scrapbooking so I pick up free magazines every now and then, for that purpose. Through that habit I discovered a few "adult" magazines (adult topics like politics, not adult content) that I really enjoy because off how informative they are or their well-written literature (I personally love reading creative non-fiction). Unfortunately, I haven't been in the library for a year due to the pandemic, so no more magazines for me.
