Basically, she asked him what he wanted to eat and showed him. Told him she had limited funds and that she couldn’t afford red lobster, since that’s what he was craving. She basically offered a meal on her terms. A. Meal. He was upset. When she reminded him that they weren’t in a relationship, he went off. He basically told her (in the update) something to the effect of not giving her a relationship which all women want.

Dusty and Pickmeisha aside, that theory is definitely correct. It’s probably just still taboo at this time.
