I remember last Valentine’s Day. I was new to FDS, casually dating this guy and following the handbook. Never texted first, never paid, he had asked me in dates like once per week for the last 6 weeks or so and we had fun together.

The week of Valentine’s Day rolled around and I didn’t hear anything from him, no date request, no texts, nothing.

I was still pretty new and he was the first guy who ever put effort into dating me, so the radio silence was totally unexpected and really hurt my feelings.

I decided to text him and see if he wanted to come over to my place. He cooked for me, at my request, while I did my homework. Then sat with me while we cuddled and I worked. It was nice, and I was starting to let my guard down and think about where things were going.

The day before Valentine’s Day, it was obvious that he wasn’t going to ask me out. (I should have just blocked him) I texted him and said “I don’t think we should see each other anymore”. He called me immediately and asked what was going on and told me he thought things had been going well. I told him I thought they were going well too, but that I had realized he didn’t like me. He asked why and I explained that he hadn’t made plans with me for Valentine’s Day, and not only that but he hasn’t texted me all week. For an entire week everything around us was all about couples and not once had it reminded him of me.

He told me “I didn’t know you wanted to do something on Valentine’s Day. We can still do something, what do you want to do?”

If I have to ask, I don’t want it anymore. I maintained that he didn’t like me and we were done. Then the next day he called me to say that I was right, he thought he liked me but he actually didn’t.

This year I’m going to treat myself and celebrate being single.

unpopular opinion: valentine’s day is literally just another commercialized holiday.

no, i’m not saying that our partners shouldn’t do anything nice for us on v-day, but v-day is the perfect opportunity for narcissists and deadbeats to do the bare minimum to try to convince us “that they care.” In fact, the most malicious men i’ve ever met are the ones who go all out for valentine’s day hoping that it would be the sand in my eyes to blind me to all the other bullshit they put me through.

Please don’t be woo’d by the gestures of flowers, dinner, and chocolate to overlook all the shitty things your partner has done to you throughout the rest of your relationship. This is not a “get out of jail free” card. Pay attention to his actions throughout the relationship, valentine’s day is just a bonus on top of a healthy, positive relationship.

Going to have a relaxing time at home 😊

Last valentines day I went to a singles event cuz some people I knew were going. And also because I'd been slow faded/insulted by a scrote immediately after I turned down sex after w/ him after only a couple weeks of seeing him. So I was like fuck him I'm going to enjoy myself. It was actually a really fun night lol. I didn't see anyone I was attracted to, I was talking to this girl for a while, but once she started talking to a guy, I introduced myself to a group of girls who were so fun, one of them even bought me a shot and gave me her # later in case I needed to be rescued from a guy who had started talking to me. I had a fun night w/ that guy actually lol.

He was an LVM in the end, but I kinda set myself up for that by asking to be friends after I ended things. But I didn't spend a lot of time dating him, and meeting him showed me there are men out there who have similar and acceptable views on sex (like no desire to have it quickly, or to have a ton of partners in life). It also taught me that no, being like 75% physically attracted to a guy won't do, no matter how much his morals seem to match up with mine. I just found FDS at that time and seeing here the effort guys were putting into quarantine dates helped me put a name to what I to felt was off about him, that he was low effort.

So that was kind of my start of not caring about dating anymore, Valentines 2020. And now I will be spending Valentines 2021 chilling with my cat, being happy for my friends who are in the loving relationships they deserve, instead of making their happiness make me feel like I'm lacking or a failure, like other people's success did for years. I am grateful to be happy being single.

Last year I had a solo spa day and it was so wonderful! This year while things are open I don't feel safe doing something like that, so I think I'll have a spa day at home with a bubble bath, face mask, wine and a good book. I'll miss the massage though.
