Thank you for this! They are NOT women’s subs anymore. Look at the disclaimers in their sidebars that specifically say they are subs for men 😂 and all the male centred discourse.
Ahaha, exactly why I said "occasional." Chances are they post it without even realizing it's radfem. I haven't been on there in a while, but I unsubbed several months ago because it started to no longer align with my beliefs.
Slightly off topic, but I've noticed that when I'm listening to a story told from the perspective of a white American, they tend to disclose the race of another party mentioned in the story only if it's different from their own, even when the race of the person doesn't seem relevant to the impact of the story.
Is this something others have noticed? Or do you happen to do this? I'm thinking it's a subconscious thing since many white people are used to seeing themselves portrayed in media and being considered the "default" for lack of a better word so a person's race there's anything "wrong" or nefarious about it, but I've been curious about it since it's a behavior I don't see nearly as much from other POCs. I've noticed it with my white friends and bf, but I've never really asked why they do that. Again, not a judgement, noticing race is not being racist, in fact we should "see race" because it's absolutely a part of our identities, I'm just wondering where that subconscious act of bringing it up unnecessarily comes from.
When I tell stories, if the race detail is irrelevant, it doesn't even cross my mind as an important enough detail to share in the context of the story, e.g. if an old crotchety man wearing a red vest was an asshole at the supermarket, I think most people probably wouldn't feel the need to even consider mentioning his red vest to share that story. I tend to notice people's choice of words very closely, so I do often find meaning where there wasn't intended to be none, so please feel free to chime in on your thoughts about this!
I've thought about it more, and I wonder if they do it around me to prove that they're not racist and one of the good ones because they know other POCs other than me. I didn't consider whether or not my being part of the audience had an impact on the story, but someone else's comment made me wonder if it was meant to pander to me. I obviously didn't think my white friends were racist in the first place, but it feels weird to think they might just be trying to overcompensate to the point that it circles back to being a microaggression.
I'm white, and I see younger people doing that to POC. I can't speak for anyone I don't know, but please try to give your friends the benefit of the doubt. There are worse things than trying hard to prove you're not racist in 2020.
Yeah, that's where I am at. I know it's not something done maliciously or even consciously. It doesn't make me feel like crap or anything, but it's just something I've noticed that feels unnecessary and off, and I've never felt like bringing up unnecessarily. I know they aren't racist in the first place, so I wouldn't want to shame them for something relatively innocuous and well-intentioned.
Thanks for the input. Do you remember doing it to "prove" that you weren't racist? Did your storytelling change depending on the race of your audience? I got that "sassy black woman" vibe, too, which is why the mention of race stood out to me and it reminded me of my white friends who mention race unncesarily, without pointing out explicit stereotypes which doesn't come off as nefarious, but still rubs me the wrong way. I hesitate to call it out because as I mentioned earlier, POCs (especially those of us that are black in any way) get shamed for "pulling the race card," and I worry that I'm looking into it too hard.

Agreed. I do love the occasional radfem post, but more recently it's gone to shit and I've unfollowed.

Haha there is absolutely no radfem ideology allowed there. Or in two “X” chromosomes as both subs are full of men and handmaidens.
