No, lady, you misunderstand. We all tone it down for you ladies, because we can absolutely bash each other verbally day in and day out. We just know you ladies can't take it, so we're actually being far more polite to you ladies than we are to each other.

Exceptions apply of course, there are always shitheads out there, but by and large this is true, and this is why men want men-only spaces. We can't talk freely when you are around, becaue we have to watch what we say and how we say it. If we talked to women like we talked to men, you'd hate us all even more than you already do.

That being said, maybe that's a "patriarchal" social taboo we need to stop.

Stop treating women with kiddie gloves. Stop sugar-coating things to women. Stop trying to protect them from harsh truths.

Maybe she does have a point after all. Let's start talking to women the way we talk to other men. They're not going to like it one bit, but maybe this dose of painful truths, this tough love attitude, is what has been so sorely missing from society for so long.

I notice that at work as well. I'm in a managerial position in the construction industry, I'm in a team which Is mixed age wise and 90% male. Us younger guys get from the elders guys joking "trash" to a level that the young woman in our team has ever gotten even barely close to . If anything if all of a sudden the older boys started treating me like they treat her I would thing something's happened/wrong.

Edit: working together is not the same as helping, i tend to lend my skills to woman more often while coordinating work with men more often

She's thinking as a "men don't sexual harass men because obviously they aren't, on average, interested in men" which is fine.

I mean, her message lacks thinking the way men treat other men (a lot of times not very nice and even worse than women), but Twitter has a limit of characters and that comment is from 2018 so...

I do, and usually I refrain if it's something I'd say to a man. Women really don't understand men and it's obvious, but what's more problematic is they don't understand themselves, either. Women think they want to be treated like "one of the guys", and some of them do, but most of them would be appalled by what that really means.

It's been observed by psychologists that women who are treated the same way that men are treated (by men) feel as though they are being discriminated against, unless the man makes it evident at all times that he believes in gender equality (source).

The low [benevolent sexism] male target (compared to high [benevolent sexism] male target) was judged to be higher on [hostile sexism], less supportive of female professionals, less good of father and husband, and more likely to perpetrate domestic violence. Ratings of the low [benevolent sexism] male target were as equally negative as those of the high [hostile sexism] male target.

Slightly preferential treatment is actually the baseline of what they expect and accept. In an organic context, I can't chant "I believe in gender equality" all day to allay hurt feelings, and frankly no one would believe anyone who did do that. Realistically, men treating women how they treat each other is not feasible unless women collectively adjust their expectations of being handled with kid gloves.

Women don't actually want to be treated by men how we treat each other.

Okay, it may feel bad that we treat them differently but they way men communicate is just different. I used to have a manager that every time I would bother him to do something he'd reply he'd do it as soon as I suck him off, and then he'd do it asap. This was just a way of showing we are friends, we can break the taboo and we can say to each other things that we wouldn't say to strangers. He wouldn't have dared to say that to a woman.

Similarly I wouldn't dare to tell a woman to stop playing with herself and get back to work.

The men banter is not really all that okay, I've seen people who couldn't handle it, when I was a young guy fresh out of school I had a problem with it. Still we do treat women differently.

Having thought back on it a bit, perhaps she means more to talk about how men say stuff that can be sexual harassment. There are men who say inappropriate things like asking her cup size, or pestering her, trying to get on a date with her all the time, etc etc etc.

Heterosexual men would never say that to a man, because they're just not romantically or sexually interested in men. It would be like asking a woman to talk to men as though they were women. It just wouldn't work.

This post makes more sense when taken in that context of unwanted sexual messages, but the "answer" still doesn't really help.

How exactly are men supposed to express their interest? Can't do it at work, can't do it when she's working, can't do it if she's just walking in the street, can't do it in the grocery store, can't do it in the bar if she's with friends, etc etc etc.

Men want to have sex with women. Men have no idea how to approach women, because the old script has been thrown out the window, and every other kind of approach has been shot down and burned. Men don't know what to do or how to do it anymore, so they'll try anything that might work. We literally don't have any other options.

If you don't want guys asking you out when you don't want them to, then there needs to be some kind of socially recognized way where it is acceptable to ask you out. If there is no time where it is explicitly stated "this is how and when you approach", then men are left with no options and just have to try (almost) anything whenever they can.

It's also rather obvious to men the double standards of what passes for sexual harassment vs what doesn't. The difference lies in how she feels about it, and whether or not the man making the moves is attractive enough. Men see these double standards and are confused and frustrated to see that what is acceptable from the good-looking guy isn't acceptable from the less good-looking guy.

Is sexual harassment a problem? Absolutely yes.

Is the feminist solution of shaming/demonizing men to stop them from acting on their sexual needs a good solution? Absolutely not.

We need something better, and it's going to be hard because apparently feminists don't want to play ball, they just want to sit back, reject whoever they want, and give a free pass to the attractive guys they wanted.
