It's absolutely disgusting that it took women to be victimized in this way for people to care, but it's even worse that it happens, to anyone.

I wish her all the best, as we all know it's an awful situation to be in, and probably has made men take their lives. I hope she can stay strong.

Anyone who has brought up the fact that this is much more commonly the case for male rape victims of female perpetrators, or even pointing out that the precedent was in fact set for a male victim of statutory rape, is soundly downvoted and labelled a misogynist. I'm finding it really hard to care about anything anymore, I just don't feel like most people see men as human beings with feelings. I already feel like a massive burden on people, and all the misandry spewing out around this only makes me feel even more worthless.

Because who gives a shit about a pedo intentionally impregnating herself with a 14 year olds child just for the court to force him to pay child support.

"Misogyny" often means treating a woman as you would treat a man.

A part of me really hopes this case will serve as an eye-opener to this kind of situation as a whole, however experience has told me that best case scenario it'll just serve to make an exception for women specifically and nothing will change either way for all the men going through this every year.

Just saw a post on r/sex from a guy who just found out his rapist might be pregnant...lotta support in the thread (though his options are teribly slim) and also a lot of people out there who just legit don't think it's possible for a woman to rape a man. Pretty much the male version of "the woman's body has ways to shut that thing down". Pretty cray.

When you actually look at the case, the details are very vague and not at all clear. It's perfect rage bait, however, because no one cares about nuance and the actual facts (or lack thereof) of the case.

If you actually read the article, the father (alleged rapist) was gained 50/50 custody back in 2010. Then only in 2015 did the mother press rape charges against the father, alleging that she had been (allegedly not just statutory) raped by the father when she was allegedly 16 in 2005 (17 is the age of consent in state). The article is a bit contradictory, it says the father was charged in 2015, but it also said "nothing happened with the report" and the investigation is still open. The mother claims at the time she didn't know she could report a rape if it wasn't the day after.

The article says the mother lost her 50% custody earlier this year because she "gave her daughter a cell phone", which seems incredibly bizarre and says to me there is clearly a lack of context and information here. After losing custody, she has now been ordered to pay child support.

A very strange case that is frankly lacking a lot of context and information. It's a far cry from the image of a woman being brutally raped and having her baby snatched way from her by her convicted rapist then having to pay him.

While it's tempting to vent about double standards, I think it's more productive to see this as a chance to raise awareness and gain support for fixing child support law for victims of all genders.

I made several earlier posts in the other thread gently pointing out that the legal precedent for this case goes back several decades to a case with a male victim, and suggesting that people contact their legislators to get the law changed for all victims. Those posts were all up voted.

A woman was raped and now pays child support to the rapist, is he raising the child? Did she give her child to her rapist?

If this is true, it's a horrible misapplication of justice.

But.

We don't know that. The father of the child is only accused of rape, he hasn't been charged or convicted of anything, not even statutory rape. The fact that they call him a rapist in the headline just tells me this is rage-bait. She's not a victim and he's not a criminal til proven with, you know, facts and evidence and not just an accusation.

The father was given full custody of the child after the mother had custody for years. It is extremely rare for a mother to lose custody of her child, especially under these circumstances, unless abuse and/or neglect is going on. There's a lot of missing information in this one-sided article, and I will withhold judgement until the whole story is out. Again, just sounds like rage-bait to me.

It is outrageous. Maybe now people will pay attention to it. This woman is a victim, she is not our enemy. We need to advocate for her and for the boys/men in this situation

Because they don't care and use the case the further their agenda. I hope she wins her legal battle but the people getting outraged, for the most part, only pick and choose cases to further cement their beliefs. It's okay to outraged in this instance but why is it not consistent when the roles are reversed?

DNA test is part of court documents that proves with 99.97% accuracy, John Barnes is the child's father. Barnes was 30 years old and Abelseth 16 at the time of conception. The act was illegal at the time, even if it were consensual; Abelseth maintains it never was.

Your edit says "alleged" but the DNA and time of conception kinda seals the deal doesn't it? Undeniable proof of statutory rape makes him a rapist. Is there some other form of evidence that refutes this that I missed?
