I saw this advertised in an Instagram post of an actress I follow, and it was being advertised with the slogan "the stories women tell." I've got absolutely nothing against female directors and think there's many that are talented, but again, why make this into a gender issue? Gender is irrelevant to one's filmmaking talents and storytelling capabilities, and yet things like this only further widen the gender divide. I can only imagine the controversy that would arise if there were a Men's Film Festival or if there was a slogan that said "the stories men tell." Why categorize something by gender like this? Just give exposure to talented filmmakers no matter their gender.
