Out of college I began working as an analyst for an investment bank, and I'm a few months in and happy to say that I've got an excellent boss. I have tremendous respect for this guy - he's Vice President of the department and been with the company for almost 30 years. Since this is my first real job he's been giving me career advice whenever there's time - usually once a month. I remember the first session very well because during which he leaned in closely, looked me right in the eye, and said:

"Put off getting married as long as possible. Get married and your primary function will be writing checks".

Just a little nugget of wisdom there.
