Saw Avengers: Infinity War last night. Overall good and entertaining. Will probably see it again.

Couple of the trailers beforehand, and the reactions to them, were interesting.

One was for Ocean's 8, aka Ocean's 11 but with girls. Not as cringe-worthy as I expected, but does anyone really expect a heist film starring a bunch of middle-to-late-middle-aged women to be appealing to a mass audience?? There's even a (genuinely funny) moment near the end of the trailer where the women are having a female-style argument, and I'm sitting there thinking to myself "how are THESE people going to pull off a major heist, they can't even figure out how to turn on a stupid machine".

The reaction to the trailer was extremely...muted. And I was in a PACKED audience of rowdy New Yorkers who were hyped as fuck to be at the movies. They just didn't give a shit about this movie, and I suspect the box office numbers will reflect that.

Solo: A Star Wars Story came and went. This is going to bomb horribly, the best part about the trailer was someone shouting "STAR WARS IS DEAD!" afterward, which caused waves of laughter--far more reaction than the actual trailer got. Disney has really fucked that franchise.

Then came The Incredibles 2.

My initial reaction, which was very positive seeing as how the first film is one of the best superhero flicks ever made, was immediately supplanted by fucking RAGE.

The male characters in this movie are ALL under the thrall of female characters.

Trailer opens with the little boy being bossed by his sister. It's funny and truthful in that it reflects a rambunctious kid being disciplined by his older sister, but then:

The trailer shifts to the true core of the story, which is that MRS. INCREDIBLE is the HERO and MR. INCREDIBLE is a STAY-AT-HOME DAD.

So here we are, treated to the same old bullshit where raising a child is the REAL challenge, and Mom/wife is the REAL hero, out saving the day, while the stupid MALE gets to learn how hard parenting REALLY is!!

Same old condescending bullshit, cue scenes where the male characters are struggling with basic household duties and responsibilities, and having difficulty managing the children. When I think to real life, I have NEVER heard a MAN complain about how difficult managing a household is, yet here are these SUPERHEROES who, because they are stupid men, must be portrayed as out of their depth at basic homemaking.

I mean, low-key misandry aside, let's forget the fact that The Incredibles are a TEAM, and the first film worked the BEST when ALL THE CHARACTERS worked together; it was satisfying action and satisfying storytelling because of their family dynamic.

But no, the women have to be handed their time to shine, so fuck what was established in the first film, let's push this propaganda so little girls and their mothers can feel good about themselves.

The trailer ends with the Sam Jackson character--who is about to go help his best friend save the world--being BOSSED by his wife. It IS a funny moment, but in the way that we recognize bossy and naggy Black women sassing their husbands. The bitch is married to a SUPERHERO and STILL treats him like garbage. This dude has to SNEAK out of his OWN HOUSE just to SAVE THE WORLD.And people laugh, likely feeling how "true to life" the moment is.

Men, even fucking SUPERHEROES, are just expected to take this shit and accept it.

FUCK these movies.
