There's sure to be many factors, but I bet it's partly these girls going in in very bad shape. Now being an Air Force veteran I can't speak for the Navy, but from what I saw in basic training, females don't bother getting themselves ready for the rigors of military training, even when female standards are way below male standards. Now as far as I can tell Air Force training is easy compared to say, Marine Corps boot camp, bit it will be difficult if you go in and you're not in good shape.
