First, universal income mathematically won't work even in the U.S. that's richer than every other country.

It doesn't work. The math doesn't work. Its basic math. Even if you seize every bit of money from everyone making over $50k, it still won't work.

Math bitches.

Secondly, AI building AI isn't new, or even that interesting in the field. AI systems are used to build AI systems all the time. Its nothing that amazing. Its letting the computer do shit for you, like they're supposed to. Computers aren't good for Facebook status updates, but they are good for computing things like AI or anything repetitive like that.

Programming isn't going anywhere. They've been trying to get rid of programming for years, whether through outsourcing or just creating languages like COBOL for stupid managers to write. They won't do it. AI can't possibly replace programmers. They can barely get programs to work when intelligent humans are involved.

It's like outsourcing to India. You can tell them over the phone what you want, but what you want and what you get aren't the same thing. Who are you going to call when it doesn't do what you want? There's no one around to talk to or make a change.

Companies try to embrace these things all the time. Except they fail 99% of the time, then the on site programmers program around the stupid executive management idea. Every time they do this they need people to fix the stupid managerial mistake.

If some company wants to go AI, good luck to them. When it blows up, and it will, some executive is going to feel the heat, and executes entire purpose is to escape blame. You can't do that with the excuse "THE AI DID IT".

The bold claims are those who think you can just pay people $20,000 a year to do nothing. There isn't enough tax revenue to support it.

You can seize, forget taxation, 100% of the wealth of the top 10% and you still won't be able to afford it. Even if it did, which it won't, what are you going to do year two? You seized all wealth by everyone that had any money. So now that money is gone. So who are you going to seize all wealth and assets from now?

I'm lazy so I'll use 2015 data.

In fiscal year 2015, the federal budget is $3.8 trillion. These trillions of dollars make up about 21 percent of the U.S. economy (as measured by Gross Domestic Product, or GDP). It's also about $12,000 for every woman, man and child in the United States.

So what UBI mathematicians^* are saying, is you can take every single bit of spending the government does, and hand it out to everyone in the amount of $12k. $1000 a month. Not a lot to live on, considering that $12k will immediately become to the new $0. There a reason you can't buy a house for $1200 anymore. Prices rise and the lowest level rises. If everyone gets $12k, that $12k will disappear because everyone will add it to the prices of goods and services.

Mind you, the U.S. has to give up the military, regulations, the FDA, entitlements, law enforcement, civil liberty protections, highway finding, social programs, NASA, science investment, pretty much everything government does, to do nothing but seize wealth and distribute it to everyone.

And in no analysis do they even explain what people will do when this happens. People change behaviors. Smart people and money flee the country, which is already what happens with our stupid tax policy.

Then what? The lower 50% of income earners pay only 2% in taxes, The upper 50% pay 98%. The top 10% pay about 38% of all income taxes. You think they'll stick around? No they won't because they aren't stupid.

I could go way into detail why basic income is a monumental failure and will never, can never, work. Every UBI study being done is bogus because it doesn't measure UBI, it measures how people feel about it in a limited capacity. Alaska's permanent fund to citizens isn't UBI and doesn't measure what UBI intends to do.

UBI is just the latest marxist idea to ensure more socialist nonsense that, also, doesn't work. It tries to use AI and automation as boogeymen to try and get people to accept a stupid idea of being on a "free" allowance and not have to do anything but sit at home, smoke weed, and play xBox. And "don't worry, we'll just tax those evil rich people a couple percentage points" even though mathematically it won't work. Its always the damn math that ruins these ideas. But that's their cheerleaders, lazy people who don't want to have to do anything, but claim to be fighting for the "poor".

You pin down any UBI promoter and they can't come up with one way it can possibly work. They never take how people behave into account. They never show any math that works. And even if they did, you could get UBI for about $1 a day at best and even that would cost $127,750,000,000. So $128 billion or so to give everyone a dollar a day.

Shutting down discussion? That's all the poverty white knights talk about. There are entire think tanks devoted to instilling marxism and socialism in the U.S. to get American's to hate America and hate rich people. That's all you ever hear. The "propaganda" being shut down is people saying that America is a good place.

As I recall there are some marxists burning down colleges and assaulting people for just trying to make a speech. I don't even know what the speech was going to be about, but they sure are shutting down people trying to "have a discussion" about culture.

So I politely disagree with your assertion. Tax the evil rich. America evil. Got it. Socialism has been a success everywhere its been tried so lets do more of that.

I'm sorry for whatever you feel "society" has done to you. I have no idea what that was, but clearly it burned you.

If you think government, the ones currently fucking society, is going to somehow "save" society, it isn't going to happen. Why would they? All they care about is money and power, for them. Not for you, not for me. If anything, all laws are to prevent you from having any power at all, so trying to get them to solve anything that benefits anyone but themselves is never, ever going to happen.

Millions slaving away? You can walk away any time you want. No one is "making" you work or do anything. Are you being forced to do something? I find this to be an odd sentiment in a subreddit for people shunning societal expectations and going their own way in life.

I'd say at this point its the kind of field you get into, make some bank, then leave and go do something else.

It's the kind of field where you need to switch jobs every couple of years to get a jack in salary. The field isn't one where raises and such as very large. Although you generally are making more money than in most other fields that require a lot of secondary education.

It's still one of the last wild west fields where you can be self-taught and get into it and although you'll go farther with a PhD in it, or a business degree, which means you're in management and not programming, you can still do well at it financially.

That having been said, you've really got to love it to be successful in it. Going into it because of the money is a recipe for failure. If you really love programming and technology, like play with it as a hobby, then you might find happiness there, but if you don't, you'll probably find you hate it and you suck at it.
