There are plenty of lonely women past their prime who are the target of less-than-ethical dudes who swoop in to romance them just to extort money. They'll take some time to build their trust and then do something like borrow some small sum of money like $200. Then they'll pay it back, as promised to cement that trust. Then some time later they'll access a bigger amount either through another request for a loan, maybe 2K this time or maybe they do ever better and have access to their bank info. Basically, through the build-up of trust, he rakes her over the coals and vanishes. Maybe he has a 10K loan from her under a false identity and absconds with it or maybe he raids her bank account with the info he's obtained from her. In the end, it's always the same. As soon as he has enough trust from her, he abuses that trust and bails after a big pay day from her.

I vehemently condemn this kind of behavior and think anyone who does it should be prosecuted. I know plenty of people, both men and women, would have sympathy for the woman who was defrauded by this kind of thing. However, what baffles me is how little compassion people have for the men who get ripped off by women. Women don't even have to resort to anything illegal. They can rip off a man totally legally. They'll size him up financially and then marry him with the intent of divorcing him as soon as they're legally entitled to have his wealth. That's fraud in my book. Yet, most people just see this as normal. I see it as a betrayal and theft, every bit as much as the first example. If you object to my first example, everyone is on board with you, but if you object to the second one, you're some kind of misogynist. That's how sick our society is.
