This is why fathers used to pay men to marry their daughters, back in the old days.
Relationships, back then, had nothing to do with the status of a man. Having a “cute girl” really meant nothing.
Life was tough, most marriages were arranged, and the two people simply partnered up to get through life.
Nowadays, relationships have turned into status symbols.
[–]jimmy_eat_womb102 points103 points104 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link
fewer men available than women because of constant wars. locking down a man was a prize for a woman. we are no longer in that situation. there is somebody out there that will feed and shelter that 'prize', at least for a while, until he gets tired of her shit.
its kind of a mess right now, but its not like i want it to go back to constant warring.
[–]Aro222056 points57 points58 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Yeah daddy government will do it until they get enough control then they will just let these women starve on the street with everyone else.
I get that the strategy works now but I mean you don't die right away from ingesting prions in mad cow disease but that doesn't make it a good fucking idea.
Men are going to become less likely to be supportive of their government (and women) as time goes by. Which means either the government falls (fat chance) or it will turn the knob of oppression up to 11 to maintain it's established power.
I wish people could see past the end of their nose.
[–][deleted] 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Most people are NPC's. It's their role to be lead. Once enough people with forceful personalities are leading a situation can turn pretty drastically.
[–]Paladin290312 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolute truth. Completely agree. Men just mindlessly keep marching towards their enslavement, because “everyone else is doing it.”
[–]Aro22205 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah it's not about convincing the majority of people. It's about convincing the handful of people that everyone else is going to follow.
[–]Docbear6421 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I do too , I feel like the writing is on the wall and there are so many ways in which we could collectively fix things or at least compromise to improve but choose not to usually for the focus on profit .
Profiting now for tomorrows misery is so terribly short sighted .
[–]Aro22202 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The solution is self responsibility. Everyone always looks to someone else to solve a problem. That's a crazy philosophy. People should be encouraged to be responsible. We should want to find out who is capable and who isn't so we don't end up following the incapable ones.
I know it's not all rainbows and sunshine but that's life. If we don't get our shit together some day something terrible is going to happen to us and we won't be resilient enough to handle it. Quite frankly, we need everyone to be responsible... we can't have the planet full of babies that need daycare.
[–]Paladin29031 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Exactly this! Learned helplessness and a victim mindset have been DRILLED into much of the population. Got a problem? Then find the fucking solution. All goes back to brainwashing-entitlement.
[–]Aro22200 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, a lot of what happened was grass roots... but the instigators leading the way were there. Like the birth control pill... and Sanger's involvement... leading to the 'sexual revolution' which leads to the downfall of modern civilization.
There are some very smart, and very evil people who are in very powerful positions and look to the human race like it's just a bunch of insects they can manipulate to build their pyramids.
And they're almost right.

Waring might make men out of these boys of summer if you ask me.
Hipsters, man buns, pumpkin spice latte. All a consequence of not having a war for a few generations.
[–]MysterManager17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
At the very least it might take the spotlight off of exasperating problems like, “should men be allowed to use the little girl’s bathroom if they identify that way?”
[–]FutureSquall12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

WTF are you talking about? We've been in a constant state of war for almost 20 years. It's not a massacre like Vietnam, but it's still a war.
[–]Secondstoryguy69698 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That’s arguable. You simply cannot compare the “wars”, and I use the term loosely, over the last 10 years to WW1, WW2 and Korea. It’s apples and oranges.
[–]OptimalAdhesiveness1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They didn’t start the comparison technically, the people talking about the men of today vs men from back then did though.
[–]RadicalAsceticMonk3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Modern warfare is mostly technological - there's little need for huge numbers of boots in the ground when most of the fighting is conducted through air strikes and missile launching. In fact, a huge army is more than not a liability, due to it being harder to supply and easier to destroy from range. So, even with the world in a state of constant warring, there will be no need for conscripted armies; it's better to have a massive workforce supporting a stronger army than the other way around (modern wars are lost because of insufficient supplies, not because of lack of firepower).
The only real difference from the past is that we don't have a major European war since 1945.

The reason we lost wars like Vietnam is the same reason the soviets had a bad time in afghanistan.
You cannot occupy a country that doesn't want to be occupied. When your goal is pacification of a populace that hates everything you stand for, then you've already lost.
However, when you are fighting against a national entity, like WW1, WW2, and our war against Saddamn Hussein, conventional military tactics work wonders, especially with superior technology. Look at how quickly we destroyed Iraqs stuff, they had no chance with outdated Soviet T72s vs M1 Abrams, and our advanced stealth fighters crushed Iraqs air defences.
Crushing a hostile country so it surrenders is easy, provided you have the manpower/industrial base/superiority to do so, as shown by the United states during WW1/WW2, and the Iraq War. Even the American Civil War was an example of this.
Trying to pacify a region doesn't work.
[–]Paladin29033 points4 points5 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
War, today, is way different than it used to be. I have a few buddies in the military, and from what they told me, most of it consists of passive targeted precision bombing, with something that looks like a PS4 controller.
Don’t get me wrong, there are still a handful of jarhead Marines on the front lines in certain places, but it isn’t very many, and hasn’t been for a looooooong time.
The type of war that will involve a lot of men, and will make men out of men, died somewhere around 2005.
[–]Raider_Scavver1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
More like an (((infiltration))) not war...
[–]Cade_Connelly_130 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Horsecrap.
We have more people dying in car wrecks than in combat zones.
Our generals in previous, actual WARS would have given their eyeteeth for casualty rates that low.
[–]chipsandsalsa34 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
We’ve literally been at war since 2001. We don’t fight wars hand to hand combat style anymore. You’re eager to fight? Go enlist. We could always use a few good men.

Wise words backed with facts right here! I believe the term for the marrying of the daughters was a dowry.
All of this reminds me of the movie, The Corpse Bride. A statement in particular from the Everglot matriarch when asked if her daughter would even like her future husband: "...as if that has anything to do with marriage. Do you suppose your father and LIKE each other??....of course not!"
Another reason why I am so glad I wasn't alive during the Victorian Era.

[–]mgtowthrowww17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My ex and I’s breakup was “peaceful”, because I didn’t want her suing for common law marriage stuff. I just wanted it to be a breakup. If I didn’t think there’d be legal consequences, I would’ve tossed her shit out the window and let the birds carry it away.
Her parents (great people) thought we broke up because “we just grew apart”.
I wanted so badly to shout “YOUR DAUGHTER IS A FUCKING WHORE!” But didn’t. I’m not that dumb.
Instead while we were packing her things I just shrugged at one point in our conversation and said “Hey, maybe you’ll meet Hank soon”
“Who?”
“Huh? Oh, I dunno. I guess you probably won’t”.
Hank’s obviously not his real name for Internet story, but I like to imagine he asked her who Hank was at some point and she shit herself.
I weirdly derive a different, but near-equal pleasure from that as I do the thought of screaming “YOUR DAUGHTER IS A FUCKING WHORE!” at her parents.
She never sent any pissed-off texts about “YOU TOLD MY DAD ABOUT HANK, YOU FUCK!”, so I have to only wonder if it happened. Fun mystery.

The father's response reminds me of 24 years ago, when I was in college and started dating a young woman I met on a BBS (older folks might remember those). I was having dinner with her family and the young woman started having a tantrum about something and stomped off. Her father pulled me aside and said, "She's just like her mother". After a few dates I came to understand what he meant, as it was obvious he was brow-beaten by the mother. The daughter tried the same garbage with me, so I kicked her to the curb.

I’ve gotta respectfully disagree. MGTOW means living life on your terms, and not marrying them or cohabiting with them. Other than that, it’s the ultimate man’s man philosophy. Some, like yourself, would just walk away. And that’s fine, I can respect that. You are your own man.
Others, like anon and myself would want to teach her a lesson about life, and how to treat people. I personally think society is the way it is because far too many people, for far too long, have gotten away with absolutely abhorrent behavior, simply because of the mind-control programming of “don’t bully,” or they’re just scared of confronting people, or they don’t want to be the next social media star from the sheep paparazzi herd.
Whatever it is. This has to be stopped, otherwise society is gonna go fully down the drain. Sometimes you have to be the stern father that a lot of these people never had. When I see people acting horrendously to others, for absolutely no valid reason, I call them out. That’s just me.
