Just upgraded my gpu. Getting my PC ready for the next batch of games coming out!

Yesterday was a damn good day. Woke up late, the sun was shining and birds were singing. I was chillin with my dogs when I was thinking to myself "hey man, you got a couple extra hundred bucks, it's a nice day, let's go do something."

So I said bye to the doggos, got in my car and just went out not really knowing what I was doing. Ended up passing a PC parts store, went on to go check out some stuff and pass the time. Noticed they were selling 1050 ti for 160 bucks. My GPU upgrade was long overdue so I decided to grab me one. I got lunch in town and headed home to install my prize, then I spent the night playing all the games I use to only get 30fps on at 60fps 1080p quality.

That's it. Thats the end of my story. No need to call for permission to spend my own money. No need to call anyone and ask if I have to get food for them. I didn't have any fights about money or toys when I got home. No fighting about me spending a couple hours installing my GPU, no fighting about spending my night playing video games. Just me, by myself, doing what I want to do.

Word of warning: the game PUBG will only give you frustration and make you pull your hair out. You may win once every 20 hours, but you will never be as a good as the people who get 150 fps with their $3K gigs and 1440 hz monitors.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 12 points13 points  (9 children) | Copy Link

I tried PUBG my friends won't shut up about it. But it's not really my thing, the idea of total RNG set ups for the first half of the game really doesn't work for me, that and my aim is garbage.

But I'm excited for Destiny 2, Monster Hunter World is around the corner, and now I can actually play my survival games like Ark and Conan (except Conan went and died on me).

[–]Teflon08194 points5 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Eh, Destiny 2 isn't great. I was pretty hyped for it, but ended up disappointed. Matchmaking for the more challenging content would have made it a little better, but I guess Bungie disagrees with the concept of occasionally playing solo.

Not many games to look forward to right now for me. I'll probably check out Shadows of Mordor 2 but I don't expect that to be anything spectacular.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Im pretty excited for the mmolite feel of Destiny. I haven't done a good raid since ICC in WoW. I couldn't get into FFXIV, it was just too... Japanese for me. And I quit Destiny 1 before I got to the endgame.

However, Red Dead 2 is coming soon and Monster Hunter at the start of next year. I'm also pretty excited for the games I have but couldn't run at a reasonable rate. I'm going through Dark Souls 3 again and now I can run PUBG and Ark with no issues. Hell, i bought Witcher 3 and haven't even played an hour of it because I was getting 30fps with my old card. I could always run Elite Dangerous, but now it looks fucking amazing!

[–]Lord_o_teh_Memes0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Destiny 2 is just Destiny 1.5, it brings nothing new that a DLC to the first would have brought. IF you liked the first you might like the second. If you didn't like the first you will hate the second. Game is significantly more frustrating IMO.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Really my only gripe with Destiny 1 was it was horribly over hyped as this grand space adventure with huge depth of characters.

But the very few bits of dialogue we got didnt have time to explain why it didn't have time to explain its own damn story.

[–]Lord_o_teh_Memes0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

They didn't really learn from their mistakes from the first game. Lore is still largely unexplained; game levels are just shoot from cover for 15 minutes straight; and the loot feels worse than in the first game.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh I forgot about Monster Hunter World, thanks for reminding me!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Conan died in you huh? ;)

[–]Dr_AurA0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Destiny 2 is pretty fun but the story in-game is pretty lacking. I had to go elsewhere to actually know shit that should've been obvious.

[–]retraderat10 points11 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

pubg frustration > being married frustration

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you sure?

Just kidding, hahahahahahaha

[–]frowaweylad0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

One thousand four hundred and forty hertz monitors? No wonder they win.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

There's no feeling like true independence and accountability. So what kind of doggos do you have?

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I've got a dopey dachshund and a hyperactive terrier/chihuahua. These guys keep me in the straight and narrow and give me something to care about.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

"Dopey" and "hyperactive"!!! Implying all dachshunds aren't dopey and all terriers/chihuahuas aren't hyperactive =P

I'm glad you have some peace in your life, friend.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Did you check with your wife to make sure it's OK to spend money on computer upgrades?

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope, I did call my dogs and ask if it was cool, but their response was like every other response. "Go get your head checked, mate. We are dogs and we shouldn't be having this conversation..." so I assumed it was cool with them.

[–]8017352 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Nice post man, boner and all!

Cheers!

[–]realChebz2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

dude I want to get Cars 2 with proper VR and wheel with feedback.. Played it during E3 it was a blast. But it sucks that atm I only have a laptop which isn't powerful enough to run VR... So I'll have to shell out some serious cash to buy the whole setup.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

VR is getting pretty close to a home consumer level. We're going to start seeing 2nd gen VR systems before long that would actually play some real titles. I saw Batman has a VR game on steam just yesterday and Cars 2 like you just said.

I'm totally talking out of my ass here but I couldn't imagine a top of the line rig costing more than 1200 most of which would go to the gpu and ram. As soon as they make a solid VR MMORPG, I'll jump on the bandwagon. I'll have to figure out wtf I'm going to do with my coffee table, but that's a small roadblock to downloading my brain into the internet.

[–]realChebz0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

top of the line rig costing more than 1200

I'm totally talking out of my ass here

yeah you are dude. A 'top of the line' graphics card alone will run you that.

If we are speaking 'top of the line' and not minimum to run VR, it will be in 3-5k range.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Cool, thanks for the education. I admit that I haven't priced a VR capable rig yet, simply because I'm not in the market for one right now. Here's hoping the cost to run VR will be going down in the next decade or so!

[–]blackpillmgtow2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

You should look into mining crypto-currencies with that new GPU. When you are not using your PC. Most miners these days build a rig specifically for mining crypto-currencies 24/7 and don't use their actual gaming PCs to do it anymore. Crypto mining is a nice side hustle. You probably won't make a living off it but it's some extra side income. You will see an uptick in your electricity bill though so do the math to make sure you are turning a profit.

I day trade crypto full-time and would be willing to buy crypto off you (I have multiple suppliers, many of them miners and always looking for new suppliers). However, I'm not comfortable with trading with people on here because I'm afraid of getting doxxed. In addition to day trading, I also provide crypto brokering services. Whenever you send someone money from PayPal or bank transfer for example, your real name or business name is visible. I'm self-employed and can't get "fired" per se. But I may get dropped by clients if they knew that I was a MGTOW (some of my clients are women, some of them are married, some with children, etc) and I may get banned as a client myself from certain establishments (ie. Richard Spencer was banned from a gym because a fat SJW recognized him). Some of my clients know that I'm a "misogynist" and don't care though. At the end of the day, my clients know that I have what they need (bitcoin and cash) and they know I'm reliable. And that's all they give a shit about. My views on the dating scene and politics doesn't figure into how well I do my job.

[–]fmanly0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

Is that actually profitable?

My understanding is that mining most crypto currencies is a net loss if you're actually paying for the electricity and gear, unless you're doing everything right. The companies making money mining are buying gear in bulk at lower than retail prices, and running it in large operations in areas where electricity is cheap.

That said I don't want to dismiss the idea. If I already own a GPU that I'm buying for gaming then the only real additional cost is electricity. It might not be profitable to buy a GPU just to mine, but if you have one anyway only the marginal cost matters.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ya boy still rocking a 960 lol, I don't really plan on upgrading any time soon since the video game industry is becoming pretty fucked up with all the scummy business practices going on (Shadow of War trying to profit off a dead ex-employee for example), NBA 2K18, enough said. Destiny 2 is a pile of meh, Metal gear solid V wasn't a metal gear solid game, Madden sucks now, Tekken 7 is the most barebones Tekken I've ever seen.

It's like companies are asking for more money for games and giving us less content, loot box culture, micro-transactions, day 1 DLC...pre-order nonsense, I can go on and on.

Why does Tekken 5 have more content and game modes than Tekken 7? Doesn't make any sense, why are they putting gambling mechanics in video games?

Don't even get me started on all the SJW shit that's infecting games, just look at Battlefront 2 and COD: WWII, Horizon and it's diversity BS, that new Uncharted game with those two chicks that I could care less about, why would I want to play a Uncharted game without Nathan Drake?

That's like a Metal Gear Solid game without playing as Solid Snak...oh wait.

I recently hooked my Playstation 2 up and been playing games I missed out on back in those times.

[–]fruitlewp2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

This is a great story. I'm glad you had a good time.

[–]Flintblood1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

True freedom. Take notes kids.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I got a 770 Gtx. Not sure what to upgrade to yet, kinda saving ATM.

[–]Mapispema-ta1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

I plan to get the 1060 as a present to myself on Christmas. And i agree with you. It ain't worth buying the 1070-1080 the 1050 runs just fine.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

The only difference is you will be swapping out the 1050 in 8-10 years, or you will be swapping out your 1070 in 12-15 years.

Graphics cards are just like any other tech product. You either go out and buy something within budget know you'll swap it out at some point, or you spend extra and buy the newer product.... knowing you're going to swap it out at a later point. I'm not worried about the games I won't be able to play 10 years from now, I'm worried about thr games I can't run right now.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I might pick up the 1050ti myself then. Was looking at a 1070, but I don't wanna drop that much on a vid card either. I will have to see how much better the 1050ti is than my 770gtx though, prob a big upgrade, but yeah.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll tell you this, I had no idea how huge the 1000 series cards have gotten. My 1050 is twice the size of my 670, its built weird too, it has the card on the bottom a heat sink covers the entire top and two fans on top of the heat sink.

It runs the standard PCI 3.0 slots but is roughly a foot long compared to my 6 inch 670. I don't know if the 770 runs at 1080p. I know my 670 was only 720p.

[–]MadPreacher1AD0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Awesome to hear that. I have a Radeon 460 ROG variant that I haven't used yet.

Got an old motherboard, cpu, and RAM lying around that you don't need? I can't afford to get something new like Ryzen, but anything better than my Core2Duo E8400 is an improvement. :)

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Sorry buddy. If you want an old ass 670 gtx it has your name on it, but this was just a parts swap today. I won't be doing an overhaul until my motherboard fries out lol.

[–]MadPreacher1AD1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahh okies. LOL I have a 760TI right now in my system.

[–]SFM_20460 points1 point  (5 children) | Copy Link

1050 ti is shit.......why bro....why?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Not everyone is loaded, I have 1050 ti on my gaming laptop, runs fine.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

If the 1050 ti is shit what was the old ass 670 gtx that I came from? I'd love to get a 1070, but I'm not going to drop $500 bucks for a graphics card. I love gaming, but not that much.

[–]realChebz0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Dual Titan X or go home, casual!!

j/k I am sitting on an old-ass laptop myself ;(

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol I use to game on a laptop right after high school. It was just.... ugh. Now my laptop is a porn machine. Probably has internet AIDS by now.

[–]Flaye21 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It plays all the current games and it's very aggressively priced. It's just not future proof.

[–]IWontBowDown0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Nice, the 1050 ti is a nice card for the money. The only next logical step is to buy a Cougar Conquer* case and pimp it out with an ungodly amount of RGB lighting and a custom UV liquid cooling rig.

I know you'll make the right choice.

*The innuendo is palpable with this one.

[–]Alternative-MGTOW0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahhhhhhhhhh gaming season is about to start :D

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children) | Copy Link

Saving up for a 1070 myself :) I'm 19 so it takes a while lol

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

I'd be down for a 1070 myself, but right now they are just so God damn expensive. I'm not interested in getting a 2nd job just to finance my digital addiction. My friend has a 1070 though and it's really nice. Bright side Is, the longer you wait, the cheaper the card will get ;)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

True, or I could buy a 970 from a buddy for 100 dollars. It's a pretty noticeable upgrade from my 760 I have at the moment.

Just really wish I'd decided to buy a new gpu BEFORE all the mining bullshit started.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Good news Is, when this bitcoin shit moves on to something else, the market for cards will crash a little as production stabilizes from the lack of consumers. It'd be a great time to buy then. Unless your GPU is actually preventing you from playing some games (like mine was) then you really don't need an upgrade at this red hot second.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

My card can run some games I been wanting to play, but not at max ,144 fps,1080p on ultra with a 144hz monitor...hence why I want a 1070.

[–]acthrowac0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I went all out recently. It's been about 10 years since I last did a full system upgrade.

Picked up an EVGA 1080 with a 1440p 165hz monitor. It cost a fair bit but 165hz on this resolution with games is absolutely glorious. Probably won't be doing another upgrade for another 10 years.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Daayyummm it sounds like a sexy setup. Nice work:)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

what games you lookin forward to?

i am considering gettin a pre-built computer by ibuypower or similar. just would rather get a warranty and all that instead of self build, also HATE all the bloatware computers come with from mainline comps.

got a ps4 tho, so not really needed for gaming. my laptop is 5 years old and is...getting tired, sort of. keeps firing up tho.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh boy, that list is endless. Some top titles coming out within the next year would be Red Dead 2, Monster Hunter World, Destiny 2. Later, probably winter 2018/ first quarter 2019, we are looking at Days Gone, Kingdoms Come Deliverance, (and with a little luck) Kingdom Hearts 3 and The Last of Us 2 both of which will probably be ps4 exclusives.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah I'm excited for Read Dead 2 as well. Played the hell out of the first one, bummed they pushed it back for the release date as it would've been a good winter game. I'm gettin into battlefield 1 just now even tho i owned it for awhile. Also love war thunder. I tried the first last of us, and I enjoyed it but I don't have the patience for that kind of game anymore, quit only maybe 3-4 hours in.

I'm a sandbox kid. Fallout, skyrim. Like that

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

He he... just did the exact same thing...

[–]cashmoney_x0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Great, simple story that exemplifies how peaceful life can be without the entanglement of relationships. That being said, why no bring doggos with you for a ride in the car?

[–]Takakazu_Kinashi0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

You need to man up and get wifed up ManIsWalking, boys with their toys tee hee. Why aren't you spending that money on a princess.

[–]ManIsWalking[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

To that I'd say, I'm not a knight. I'm an Italian plumber, and the only princesses I'll be saving are ones that are captured repeatedly by clearly Chaotic Evil villains.

Captured repeatedly. Captured. Repeatedly. Repeatedly.

Oh GODS! MARIO'S A CUCK AND BOWSER IS A CHAD!

[–]MadPreacher1AD1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

That's been well known since Super Mario Bros 2. ;)

[–]Blaat19850 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

As a long time gamer I feel modern day gaming is being ruined by greedy publishers. Getting sick and tired of DLC, season passes, microtransactions and worst of all lootboxes.

[–]Takakazu_Kinashi0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I used to play FPSes in the mid 90s. The technology obviously has improved but the structure of games then to now is like comparing Mozart to Justin Beiber.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
