Society collapses with a whole lot less than 80% of men opting out. The reason people mistake something like MGTOW as a movement is because they're so used to people organizing, mobilizing, and shouting for the changes they see fit. See MRA's, Feminists, Tradcons, and Hippies as examples. Practically nothing in common between those four categories other than they all mobilized in a united group to attempt to change something in their own way.

MGTOW is individuals deciding for themselves "screw it, I'm gonna go watch Space Ghost". The very core concept of real and true individualism is not only foreign to them, but it shows that there is another option. This makes people very uncomfortable for two primary reasons.

One, self reflection- people hate doing it because they don't like finding uncomfortable things within themselves. I won't go into the reasons for that as that's an essay on it's own, but it's the way people are today which is a bigger problem than ever before. Those men that are already in too deep (marriage, children, etc) begin to self reflect and realize that what we say is objectively true and cannot be factually or rationally debated in any way, shape or form. Believe me, I've tried playing devils advocate just to test the ideas myself. Cognitive dissonance is the only way their minds can handle the truth without snapping. As for women, well, they have to self reflect and think about why they are repelling men to the point of going against millions of years of biology. This is obviously an uncomfortable train of thought for them.

Two, "slaves escaping the plantation"- there are many, many people who have their wallets hitched to this charade. Bankers, politicians, restaurant owners, car manufacturers, grocery chains, the insurance industry, real estate developers, and just about everything in between. They see something like MGTOW and can loosely forecast the repercussions of too many men walking away on their bottom line. For some of the more powerful, it goes a step further and threatens their very grip on control of the whole damn house of cards. They are absolutely terrified of a growing population of men that are self aware, self motivated, and don't give a shit about what they have to say. History has shown that every single time that has happened, there has been a change of ownership at the top in some way or another before long.

To quote one of the more relevant movies to this topic, The Matrix, as Morpheus is explaining to Neo during a training simulation......"The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. When you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of people we're trying to save, but until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand that most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it. Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?"

One thing that confuses me with MGTOW is, does it support children? Because if it doesn't, and I've read enough to understand most people don't want children the relationship way, then your ideas die with you. It's not very efficient. If you create children and teach them the independent way and self improvement way, then that's contribution. I would also like to hear what MGTOW people would do with their daughters if they had or have one, cause that part confuses me for now.
