I was recently looking into the Homeless shelters in my city, because I have no idea what the situation is here. Turns out theres only 2 places for men, 6 for women.

According to reviews, the places that allow men require you to show up at 3:30pm (i.e good luck getting a job, or having a place to go when you get out of work if you have one), are apparently full of drug heads who will rob you in your sleep, AND apparently the real issue is "there needs to be more shelters for women and kids".

When you read about people working 40 hours a week, but still can't stop being homeless because homelessness costs money, you know the system is fucked.

Yeah, Christ, the men's shelter around here...what a goddamn nightmare that was. Only stayed there a few hours and got out. Maybe if the guy talking to you tells you he works overnights you try to accommodate him instead of yelling at him until he takes a forced shower (which is bullshit, I'd been up over 30 hours at that point and hitting me with hot water didn't help.)

I sought shelter once and the only thing available was the one homeless shelter within 100 miles. First responders handed me a folder of services and hotlines and said I wouldn't be able to use any of them because I was male.

When I was down on my luck I found a lady that has little studios for rent and she only rented to men. It was great for a couple hundred bucks and she had everything already on electric, water, the thing was even furnished. I stayed for a couple months till I went back to the farm. This would be a great market, only issue is you’d have to weed out the men with substance abuse problems.
