No, I exit at the next stop when a situation appears probable to escalate.

I walk away from all of society's problems as they are not my problems. My goal is to die of natural causes at an old age. I will not be the radicalized individual trying to hurt nor will I be the one to step in and I think everyone should aim to be neither of these roles.

Everyone in this situation was a pawn.

Not getting involved in other people's business unless they explicitly ask me for help/my opinion. Even then I'm hesitant.

Most people in "trouble" are just people who have to deal with the consequences of their own choices.

That skank getting beaten by her boyfriend? She chose to date him.

Those people getting blown up/drove over by some muslim? They voted for it. They wanted to help refugees. Now they get what they wanted.

There is a fine line between Whiteknighting and simply helping a fellow human. In this case there was a dude talking to two Muslim chicks. He was insulting them, but not attacking them. Hence it was a White Knight move to jump to their defense. But let's be honest, if he was to physically attack them, I'd help them. Not because they're women, or Muslim, but because I'm human.

Yes. Three unarmed men tried to surround one man, thinking that they could "scold" him into submission.

Turns out, he was a nut, armed with a knife (which is more dangerous in a crowd than a gun) and sliced up three of them.

It's always safer to give your opponents more credit than they deserve than less. Assume they are armed until you are certain they aren't.

Would you have gotten involved or turn away?

If all he's doing is standing around yelling, then I would call the police and let them humble his ass for creating a public disturbance.

Probably not. I'm pretty sure Portland doesn't allow concealed handgun licenses for ordinary law abiding people, and if they do, there's 'weapon-free' zones everywhere. Let the anti-gun and anti-self-defense voting population get victimized, that's just fine with me.

It depends on the situation. Having faced off on two occasions with criminals I used my trusty pistol. The first was an attempted car jacking but I had the drop on him before he could pull his gun. Being that I was in my truck and pointing a gun at him, he decided I wasn't going to be his next victim so he turned and ran. The second criminal was a serial rapist and murderer. When the police asked me why I shot at him yet did not hit him I responded that since he was knocked down and laying at the foot of my back door steps I didn't think I could use deadly force. I had already kicked him in the gut and sent him flying down a 6 foot stair case. Instead of a tap to the forehead and two to center of mass I decided to ventilate his pants right at his crotch. The cops said I should have just finished him off because he was in my fenced in back yard and I would have been protected by the law. In retrospect if I had killed him the woman living one street over would still be alive as she was his last victim before he was arrested. His tool of trade was sharpened screwdrivers which he used to stab his victims. When I faced off with him he had a 30" wrecking bar in his hands which he had stolen from my outdoor tool shed. He woke me when he broke into the she'd so when he was trying to pry open the back door of my house I just helped him open the door by kicking it open into his face. Until the I have never seen a man do a crab walk so fast and leap a fence in one bound. I'm sure he shit himself running down the street as the cops found a tell tale trail beginning in my yard and leading across the street.

Do not involve. Exit at next station if possible. Never talk back or try to calm down the situation. You never know you are dealing with nuts or mentally ill.

Don't try to be a hero. Society pays for peace officers to deal with situations like this. It is not your job. Never let situation escalate by reacting or trying to talk sense to mentally ill people. People are angry and hateful for whatever reasons. You can't talk sense to them.

Protect yourself first and foremost before helping others. Even then be careful not to get yourself hurt by helping.

I honestly may have gotten myself killed here. Personally, I don't think it makes you a 'white night'.

Thing is I wouldn't have tried to shout him down like apparently they did, calling him a racist or whatever. That's just going to make him more adversarial.

I'd probably just try and convince him that the woman he's yelling at were harmless and that it's better to calm down. Not in those words obviously, but something to that effect.

If it really seemed bad I'd leave and the next stop and suggest the woman do the same. Of course, this could also result in violence, but I feel like if he was originally just yelling then it was the direct confrontation that might have provoked the attack.

So yeah anyways I'd tell the women to get off at the next stop. If they don't do that then they're on their own IMO. That's like passing up a free out from a potentially violent situation because it inconveniences you.
