The same happened to my two years ago. I was recommended by a friend (female) for a job. They have been searching for months without finding anyone that met the requirements.
I passed a two hours job interview with the boss and everything went very smoothly. The following day she called to announce me that I don't get the job . The reason? She doesn't hire men anymore because once a man worked for her and it wasn't a good experience. Funny fact if there were a vacancy it was beacause the former worker quit one day without a word. And it was... a female. I imagine that she considered that as a good experience.

Well you may wish to defend your country but make sure you defend yourself and actual sanity by never getting married or having kids for that nation. I am not.
