Fixing a house is a form of skilled labor that requires an education. Nobody goes to school to become a babysitter.

You can also babysit a bunch of kids at the same time. I don't know many carpenters that can build 3-10 houses at once. Don't compare 2 entirely different industries.

If you want to make more than $3/hr, you can. A waitress doesn't wait on one table. They wait on several and earn tips on each table. When I see a waitress waiting on 6 tables versus 1 table, I know the waitress that's waiting on 6 tables will be earning more in $ tips. Same applies to babysitting. If she wants more money, babysit more kids. Still want more? Enrich their lives by teaching them to swim or speak Spanish. Still want more? Tutor them with homework or take them to a show. It's a capitalistic venture not a job. Treat it accordingly and you can increase it's market value. If all you're gonna do is make sure one kid stays alive... $3/hr is all you're worth.
