I'm gay. And no, gay men are not hypergamous. I suspect that you are misunderstanding what the definition of hypergamy means. It does not mean that you sleep around a lot. That's promiscuous. Hypergamy means that you constantly look to trade upwards. Fucking the rich betabucks because he's got more cash than Alpha Chad. Sleeping with your boss to get ahead at work. Dumping one boyfriend so that you can monkey-branch to someone who "deserves you" and can "afford you". Cheating on your boyfriend with someone else just because he's got a bigger house or fancier car. Marrying and fucking a 70 year old geezer because he's got lots of money and you want to inherit it after he dies. That's hypergamy. So no, I can't think of a single gay man who has ever done that. Even gay hookers don't really have hypergamous attitudes.

The only thing that really drives gay men to sleep around with a lot of other guys is that they want to sample a lot of different ~~dicks~~ dishes in the buffet. That's not what hypergamy means.

If we are going by this definition - basically "marrying up." I think ANYONE of ANY orientation has the potential to do this, and benefit form it. HOWEVER, since men historically have more access to forms of power, I would say they main "perpetrators" of this would be straight women to men - this in turn redirects a lot of this historic power from men, straight into women's wallets.

Now gay men do "marry up", and so can straight men, but I do think straight women do it more again just based upon the historic disconnect between men and women's access or ability to access financial, political, economic, and social power. In other words, men don't often need to "marry up" because we generally have more access to power and success than women do (at least historically). That doesn't mean that we RETAIN this power once a women enters the scene, especially when considering the laws that are currently in place that concern a "woman's right" to a man's income, property, power etc. Many of these laws were made when women really couldn't just go out ans support themselves legally - which makes them now antiquated, unjust, and unfair for men. It essentially turns men into financial slaves for women, and makes women feel unwarrantedly entitled to this money.

But back to the Gay question - yes gay men marry up too, just like anyone who wants to benefit their situation by avoiding hard, honest work. But since it's both men in the picture - this scumming doesn't last long, there is no legal "protection" or "right to assets" for gay men who "marry up" and then divorce as there is for women and mothers.

But mostly, when you're both men - we just go Dutch. We don't play that helpless shit haha

Unpopular opinion: There's no 'gay' men or 'lesbian' women. These people are mentally ill. They have a psychological illness. There are only two genders; male or female. Sex or gender you may call it but there are only 2 of it. The rests are absolute bullshit.
