The most power that you can have is having the ability to walk away, with indifference.

As a young, decent looking man growing up, many have tried to exert power over me in different ways.

Most methods were subversive, passive-aggressive attempts to pigeon-hole me into roles, positions, duties that I never asked for.

Demands on your time & energy, making me talk to people that you don't want to, smiling and being fake friendly and putting on a show, making me go places that I don't want to, making me submit to their little rules. Standing in my personal space, loudly talking in my vicinity, slamming doors, fake coughing, the list goes on.

When I was young, my sister was 5 years my elder and made me smile at her in order to have permission to speak. Spit in my food. Threatened to kill, pinch, hit, kick me if I told my parents.

I have experienced a lot of abuse in the past, forgave her and working on forgiving others from my past.

This abuse is not my reason of going my own way, it's more because I noticed the more subtle psychlogical control in my immediate environment, and society today. I am not one that can be manipulated, or coerced into doing anything against my moral principles.

Nowadays, I'm a quiet guy building businesses on my computer. I don't want your attention, and I will actively ignore the external pressure from others to fulfill my role as a side character in their narcistic movie.

We are each on our own path in life, and I believe it's entirely your own path. Even if it temporarily runs parallel to the paths of others, eventually they diverge and you need to decide where you are headed. You need the power to walk away from zero-sum games and to see through the manipulation attempts which lay as traps everywhere along your path.
