Its a good idea, but after you truly become irreplaceable at your job, then you're doing basically all the work. Which is fine until you want to take a vacation.

One thing I've learned is that nobody is irreplaceable.

I've seen many people who were great at their job forced out and replaced by some retard who will work for half the pay.

Good idea but quite difficult to implement out of some very specific, technology oriented field imo.

In my field, to be irreplaceable means being able to work to your own death, 6 days a week, 12+ hours a day under constant pressure from upper management, from the customers, from bitchy wyminz who want to play the field without paying the price plus endless paperwork and the fucking cellphone glued to your hear.

Then you take a good look at your paycheck and realize your are making just a couple more bucks an hour than the dishwasher...

I agree with this. When I was younger I heard men ranging from my Dad to Ted Nugent all say: whatever job you're in, be the best. Figure out what you're good at, do it, and be the best you can. All my career I have been a technologist (which I'm good at) never a supervisor (which I'd suck at, even if it has higher pay and status). I feel pretty secure.
