Isn't shaming him exactly the technique used by society to push men to "man up" and sacrifice themselves? This was my life basically. Every time I tried to leave she'd either say she'd kill herself or couldn't live without me and guilt me with that and my kids. It's easy from an outsiders view to say "just fucking leave." He's probably hanging on to the version of her he fell for thinking if he does more that person will come back. It's really hard to leave a situation like this. I've done some demanding shit in my life but getting out of my marriage like this was by far the hardest.
