Read a book he wrote. Commies killed his family in Warsaw during the war. He escaped to France and joined the foreign legion. After WW2 the West and the commies wanted to take control in Africa. Gan Ganowicz always fought against the communists, didn't matter where, didn't matter how many. As long as he fought against them. Fall of the Soviet Union was his personal victory. In his old days, he lived in France and got threats from the Soviet spies, so the french president gave him an unprecedented right to bear arms as a foreign citizen Fucking legend.

I had no idea he had written a book. Africa and the war against communism is an interest of mine, well fighting commies anywhere really. Middle east such as in Oman or SE Asia. etc. I always had a lot of respect for Rhodesians and Afrikaners for all the Commies they killed. I also enjoyed reading Mike Hoares books about his exploits in the Congo.
I'll definitely have to put it on my list.

Yeah, it's his memoirs. I read it in Polish under the title Kondotierzy, I don't know if it's been translated into English. And it was his father that was in the french foreign legion not Rafal. The father was a legionnaire, moved to Argentina, became rich as fuck, came back to Poland, coz motherland. 1932 Rafal is born, they're rich af, life is great then boom WW2, both parents dead, Rafal devotes his whole life to fight the Soviets. Now if that's not a story for a fucking blockbuster, I don't know what is.

It would never get made. Hollywood is full of Marxists.

Like a normal Mcdonalds, with longer queues and less smiling.
'In fact, the customers felt so uneasy while being served by someone who was smiling that the McDonald’s chiefs asked their employees to smile less!'

In communist McDonalds the staff would be rude and drunk, nobody would go there anyway because they would have no food to serve.
Of course the staff would still appear daily at their job to steal the little supply they get delivered to sell it on the black market and because there are no unemployed people in a communist system.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Someone who gets it. Literally most of the productive capacity of the Soviet Union was engaged in stealing what little there was and selling it on the black market towards the end. Even the higher classes devoted most of their effort to gaming the system in order to get more perks. Like KGB colonels who would brag about having 2 ladas so he could give one to his daughter and thought they lived like kings.

That is what Russian restaurants are like now. They don't need Communism to be drunk and rude.

Communism is cancer.
[–]srich10000 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Communism it's self is not a cancer, it's the lack of human ability to be completely impartial! The greed of humanity ruins the idea of communism!
[–]Ohboohoolittlegirl7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Funny how kids don't realise all the brands, the diversity and differently targeted products they enjoy will be gone or super simplified if we ever get to communism. They really think the communism part only applies to the social benefits.. but that's not how it works..
In addition, I live in a former socialistic country. People are rude and unfriendly to anyone, even as a cashier.. it's amazing.

I can partly understand, wages are still low compared to the west, the goods are in the stores to buy but money is tight. There is a well developed and connected "upper crust" with more or less morals when it comes to making their money that live the western upper middle class lifestyle... at the same time the vast majority is still just making barely a living.
And all the well meant social nets of the communist past were cut and replaced by mere subsistence welfare.
I do a lot of work in the CEE area and after first resentments avg. people I work with thaw up on me when they see that I am also just a tradesman getting my fingers dirty if necessary to make a living.
Nobody can chose in which place and which skin he is born into, but what you make out of it is your personal responsibility.

now why would one eat overpriced lumber dust when you can have free organic food at the kolchosis you work the field at...

In 1980 I learned the reality of communism. On the West German border, looking East into Chekoslovakia... past the white post every 100 meters marking the German/Chek border, past the double-fence with minefield in between, past the tank traps on the road, at the guard towers with the GUARDS FACING EAST... to keep the Cheks IN.
If that isn't enough for you to learn how communism works, you are an idiot.
Only 1 Chek got through the border on our sector for the 20 months I was on duty there... and he was ONE OF THE GUARDS!

Yes, Thomas Sowell coined "unconstrained vision"

I can offer some real life perspective on this.
I live in Thailand for most of the year, which is not communist, but not much better, can't really say much more. They DO monitor the internet here.
But every three months I have to make a visa run to Laos, which IS still communist. They actually fly their country's flag and the old-school red and yellow hammer and sickle flag side by side.
Laos is dirt fucking poor.
1 USD = ~32 Thai Baht (and it keeps going down gradually because our economy is a complete failure)
1 Baht = ~270 Lao Kip. Think about that. Lao people are basically the South American immigrants of SE Asia, as they get deported all the time for hopping into Thailand to get under-the-table work.
Despite the fact that they are so fucking poor, they have really nice, modern, expensive restaurants and shops in the center of Vientiane, the capitol city.
None of the Lao people EVER shop or eat at these places. They can't afford to. They are essentially ghost towns aside from occasional tourists who are there generally to also get new visas to return to Thailand. The restaurants they eat at are basically impromptu concrete hovels where the kitchen is next to the bathrooms, and eating at them WILL give you explosive diarrhea.
They stay open because they charge the rates you'd see back home for things. Laos, a completely land-locked jungle hot-hole, has the freshest fish and sushi you can get anywhere. But eating a plate of 12 pieces of sushi and a nice cocktail will run you about $100.00 USD. Or 860,000 Kip. Taxi drivers are desperate for 700 Kip to take you back to the airport. A Lao beer is a few cents.

[–]VisibleTheory-1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well if you get high enough up in the political party you can always have McDonald's when you are on your diplomatic trips to other nations. These diplomatic trips are of course your way of begging for food from other nations for your starving people.
