Hemmingway's hyper-masculine shtick is about as primordial blue-pill as it gets. He also had a "strong" (ie, abusive and domineering) mother and "weak" father. Hence his constant need to prove himself and elevate himself above other men.

In his professional life he was a constant and repudiated liar; In his personal life he was a chronic life long substance abuser and pussy worshipper. Wouldn't say he deserved what he got, but he did beg for it, and literary legend or not he sure as hell didn't do men any favours.

When he wasn't at the Mayo Clinic, Hemingway was spending time at his home in Ketchum, Idaho.

Hemingway committed suicide on July 2, 1961, a day after his 36th shock treatment. He had earlier convinced doctors that he could return home.

Yeah. I read the old news clippings on his wife and death while researching and drawing a parallel for a story I was writing. She was quoted in the newspaper as saying he "accidentally" shot himself while cleaning his favorite shotgun. Shortly thereafter she was sedated. Point is, only a naive woman or man in denial would think an experiences hunter and man like Hemingway would somehow "accidentally kill himself" while cleaning his favorite gun.

I'm new to this thread, but after reading the article, this headline seems very misleading. There were a series of unfortunate events compounding in Hemmingway's suicide. The wife may be implicated, but she is clearly not the root cause here.
