It's hard to offer someone true company, male or female. I'd venture that even all of us who post here may find it difficult to find TRUE friendship amongst each other.

I bought some of his books but i'm finding it hard to read. Maybe i should just push through it (not used to reading philosophy).

Anyway, I don't think he means that you always always have to offer someone true company. Just when they are with you and you don't have your solitude. But too many are "friends" without actually being friends. That word has been diluted so much, especially with the advent of social media.
