Why is anyone even in Vegas right now?

I've been ruminating a lot tonight, and something I've come to terms with recently is that the human race just isn't as far along as I thought we were based on our achievements to date. Sure, we split the atom, went to space, built enormous buildings and bridges and canals. But our technology really has far outpaced our biological evolution as animals on this Earth, in terms of our mental evolution from apes to wherever we're going.

In a way this has kind of lifted some of the frustration I've felt most of my life but especially these past 6 or so years. I realize by having these introspective thoughts I'm in the upper tier of self awareness and perhaps in a small minority of people that can see the bigger picture sometimes. And I don't even mean that in a disparaging way to others or in a conceited sense its just that I happened to be born with the base framework to be able to get to this point and live a life journey that shaped me into who and what I am now.

Many other people are not so fortunate. I feel sadness for those that are stuck in such a place where their opportunity for individual mental and spiritual growth is limited. I think we will make it as a species despite being a strong pessimist but it's going to take some growing pains. I think right now is one of those pains.

Maybe this will resonate with you in some way, as the way I see it these people travelling in a pandemic, rioting in the best society ever created by man to date, aren't there yet and may never get the chance to be. Understandably things are chaotic for them and they're reacting predictably. They/we are just animals. It's almost like a combination of pity and greif I feel for them as I believe when we do make it to the next conscious level as a species they will be the ones who never got to experience it, either alone or with others.

Stationed here currently, it’s worth mentioning Covid didn’t hurt the more affluent communities in the least.

Aside from that the outlying counties have always been fairly destitute, so there’s not much change their either.

If I had the time to even visit the strip I’ve no doubt it’s taken somewhat of a hit for tourism if nothing else.

Good for them. I was gonna be there in August but Psycho Vegas was stolen from me. Now I don't get to see Mercyful Fate or Danzig perform Lucifuge top to bottom.

i read an article that said as soon as the lockdown was well established in all 50 states, Nevada had the highest unemployment rate in the entire USA -- since 1976!! It was somewhere in the 30-34% range statewide. Their economy is not diversified well, the same thing happened back in 2008 with the financial crisis, because there were essentially only two industries driving the economy - tourism/hospitality and construction. except in the recession, the unemployment rate topped out at about 14%.

some of the very small towns would not suffer as badly as Reno or Vegas, because they have more localized industries and very little tourism, but a good 90% of the population of the state lives in either the Reno or Vegas metro areas.

1) Vegas has great weather.

2) Things are real cheap there right now.

3) Gambling is a strategy to get ahead when there are not many opportunities.
I have known many gamblers. To them this is an opportune time.

You can call them crazy. But to me they are no crazier than the people in the stock market now.

My friends win and lose. Their winning seem to be more than the losses.

Wait until the cruise ships get filled as soon as they open their services.

There are still lot of people with pockets and body that permits risky behavior. Even as Rome was burning, there were orgies of Elites and also the fools. Also people do not care, the mentality is like not my monkey not my circus. Even if the depression hits and the whole country or civilization is falling, there will be always people to celebrate and be merry.

If you have time, just read the plot of " The Masque of the Red Death " in Wiki. World will make more sense then.
