Who cares if the Nazis take over our country? We will just spread our legs for Germans instead

Women whenever an invader arrives.
Give up our lives, fight, do something for others. Hell no, we'll just spread them then feminize and nag them to ruin or suicide. Next.

In fairness, that was the common sentiment at that time. WWI was still fresh and no one wanted to start that process over again. It was only after Pearl Harbor that the US decided to get involved. Even then, the primary enemy was Japan. Not Germany. Of course, you couldn’t fight one without the other, so off to WWII we went.

i really don’t understand what you’re saying. The UK and France did not start WW2. I can’t speak for France but I know most of the UK did not want war because they thought “just give hitler what he wants and he’ll stop”. Churchill knew better. Hitler would not stop. He would continue across the English Channel and take over England. So the men went to fight for their nation. Not for nothing.
[–]HolyMoleyCacao0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Respectfully, you’re misinformed. It is well documented that Hitler has every intention of taking Britain when he was done with Europe. It’s better to go to your enemy than wait for them to come to you. That’s military 101. Britain’s actions were wise and yes, much better than the alternative.

Starting a war when there was currently no conflict would absolutely be stupid. But Churchill knew that war was imminent. Waiting for them to be on your doorstep would have been stupid. It was just a matter of convincing people that was was imminent. After that the choice was clear and, in hindsight, correct.
[–]HolyMoleyCacao0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup. Churchill understood Hitler long before the rest of the world got the message.
[–]Plazmatron440 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well Neville Chamberlain did appease Hitler however he did so to buy time to build up arms to fight Germany, it was he that declared war on Hitler, he did all this whilst dying of cancer too.
[–]Belrick_NZ0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Not true. It was Chamberlain who declared war upin Germany not churchill
And churchill was damn lucky to become pm after his botched norwegian strategy

Not at all
Two things
Yes Chamberlain was a appeaser but he also began rearming uk. Without mid 30s military boosts uk would of fallen in 1940
He alone ordered hitler to pull back across the polish border or face war. Not churchill
Let us be fans of churchill without resorting to fanbois

I thought we had a "Europe First" policy?
I mean, yeah, Pearl Harbor shifted public sentiment from isolationism to war, but IIRC, It was decided that Europe was to be the focus first, then Japan. Almost all the war material and manpower went to the Med (Africa campaign, Sicily/Italy) which led to some pretty catastrophic defeats in the Pacific until the Guadalcanal campaign.
[–]HolyMoleyCacao1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes, but my understanding is that since Japan and Germany were allies and Germany had a lot more enemies and neighbors, it made sense to try to knock Germany out first before moving on to Japan. Like in any war, there were a ton of nasty miscalculations, but I digress...
[–]Belrick_NZ0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The goal of usa in ww2 was to defend and spread communism thanks to fdr
Germany was always the goal and thanks to brilliant statesmanship fdr took a 100% isolationist usa to a 100% jingoistic usa in a single day AND get the anti commitern pact to declare war upon usa
That’s what they want you to think, man!

Yes, I would also add that every adversary is not like Hitler. There is such a thing as a rival that you can reason with. For example, I'm glad JFK talked with Kruschev about the missiles in Cuba. It was essentially, "I'll remove our missiles from Turkey if you take yours out of Cuba." That worked and World War III was avoided. Sometimes people use the example of appeasing Hitler to prove you can never reason with anyone. The truth is, you could not reason with Hitler. But you can reason with some people. Depends who it is.

After Pearl Harbor, Germany declared war upon the United States.
One of the big "what ifs" of the war if Germany hadn't done that. The United States had no reason to declare war upon Germany following Pearl Harbor, despite the Tri-Partite Pact.

We should have focused on destroying communism. The Germans were not Globalists they merely wanted to regain their lost territory and national pride not take over the world like revisionists will claim

Really? Here's a passage from a book I have about the battle of Stalingrad:
"Stalin, who had refused to accept the possibility of an invasion until that Saturday afternoon, still remained terrified of provoking Hitler. Goebbels, with some justification, compared him to a rabbit mesmerized by a snake. A succession of reports from frontier guards told of tank engines being warmed up in the woods across the border, of German army engineers constructing bridges across rivers and removing barbed-wire entanglements in front of their positions. The commander of the Kiev Special Military District warned that war would begin in a matter of hours. Reports arrived that in Baltic ports, German ships had suddenly stopped loading and sailed for home. Yet Stalin, the totalitarian dictator, still could not come to terms with the idea that events might be outside his control. That night, after long discussions in his study with senior commanders of the Red Army, Stalin agreed to the dispatch in code of a signal to all military-district headquarters in the West. 'In the course of 22-23 June 1941, sudden attacks by the Germans on the fronts of Leningrad, Baltic Special, Western Special, Kiev Special and Odessa Military Districts are possible. The task of our forces is not to yield to any provocations likely to prompt major complications.'

Doesn't sound to me like Stalin was gearing up for war but what do I know?

Europe wouldn't of been ruled by Nazis, they would of been ruled by the Soveit Union.
We always tend to overestimate our impact on ww2, but even before we got involved Russia was beginning to push the Germans back.
It is a what if, but we didn't know what the Nazis we're doing to Jews until we were deep into there territory (it was just globalism vs Germany before that) and America never really cared about fighting facism that much.
...communism on the other hand, America hates it. And we only started provoking Japan after the Soviet Union started gaining ground.
[–]Mac29010 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The USA’s economic impact cannot be overestimated. The Soviets received millions and millions and millions in raw materials and aid from the US after they joined the war, which helped turn the tide. It likely would’ve happened eventually anyway, but not in the relatively short order it happened.
[–]Sir_manalot1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is also true and a point I didn't consider.
Although, I still think we only got involved because we started to worry about the Soviet Union.
Even if Japan didn't bomb us in response to our involvement with them, we would of made something up eventually to get involved.

[–]oldgenesis1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Aryan I don't even know a German Im black. I didn't make that equation or come to any conclusions I just gave some historical events to look into... The Germans that were in Poland were being persecuted 58000 killed possibly more which is why they went in after requests for peaceful solutions weren't excepted . A Typhus outbreak was the leading cause of death and the allies were bombing the supply lines a cause of the starvation. We only look at atrocities committed by one side and we don't look at the evil actions of millions of Germans dying after ww1 and in camps after ww2. Or the many 10s of millions killed in Russia by the bolsheviks.

The Germans that were in Poland were being persecuted 58000 killed possibly more which is why they went in after requests for peaceful solutions weren't excepted .
[citation needed]
typhus outbreak was the leading cause of death
Another citation needed. And even if that’s true, I dare say the Jews and Poles might not have been suffering typhus if the Germans weren’t herding them into camps.
bombing the supply lines
No, they weren’t. Not in Poland, anyway—Allied bombers did not have the range to fly to Poland and back. The few experiments with landing in the USSR and flying back were short-lived. Only a few night raids darkened Polish skies—and good luck bombing railroads at night (the British had to firebomb Dresden to make sure the marshaling yards were destroyed—that’s how hard it is to bomb precisely in 1945).
millions of Germans dying after WWI
Where? Poland? Poland was ruled by a Socialist party whose leaders were spectacularly popular with the German AND Jewish minorities precisely because they were anti-ethnonationalist. Hungary was a German ally. Czechoslovakia did try and force some assimilation, but they did not commit mass-murder.
in camps after WWII
Again, where? Is this that discredited Eisenhower Death Camps meme, or a reference to the expulsions of Germans from Poland and Czechoslovakia? While I myself have little use for ethnic cleansing, the numbers of dead were tiny compared to the civilian casualties the Germans inflicted on their neighbors, and most of those removed were active collaborators during the war.
10s of millions killed in Russia by the Bolsheviks
Now, as a Pole, far be it from me to accuse the Russians of being civilized. Stalin did in fact orchestrate the murder of millions of Ukrainians and political opponents. But the death toll calculated through studies of the Soviets’ own archives (opened in the 1990s) tends to top out at 10 million.

Except America kept a detached stance on the war initially, seeing it as a European war. It wasn’t until the Pearl Harbor attack that the US mobilized for war and even then US efforts were focused in the Pacific theater. American educators like to drum up nationalist fervor by saying AMERICANS WON THE WAR when our biggest contribution was the Marshall Plan for economic redevelopment. Americans definitely aren’t the heroes of the 20th century by any means.

Do you believe history books, but doubt the veracity of the official 9/11 story? The gulf of Tonkin? The bay of pigs? Where do the lies stop, and the truth begins? America didn't even want to be involved in the first place. It wasn't our war. But Japan got us involved. And are we really better for it? We can only conjecture about what history would be like if Hitler won but in the end we really don't know. And I'm sure you forgot the depressions that took place shortly after the war for most of these nations who got involved. Everyone suffered. And you are in the wrong place to talk about "duty".
The only duty here if duty to take care of ourselves. Not be cannon fodder for others.

(((Official)))
The Germans’ own numbers. The Jager report lists 137,000 murders from June 22 to December 1, 1941. The Katzmann Report lists 434,000 liquidated Jews in Galicia alone. Adding up many other Einsatzgruppen after-action reports gets a total of well over a million before the Germans decided the rates of alcoholism, drug abuse, and suicide among their own men were getting out of hand.
Though a cursory examination of the Polish census of 1931 is also useful. 3.1 million in Poland in that year, 100,000 in 1950. Where did they go in the meantime? America or Canada? They were rather famously turned away. Palestine? The British blocked that to not upset the Arabs. The USSR? At the height of the purges? As if.

They had privilege trades with those countries and they got allies against URSS. URSS influence was diminished a lot. Also, millions of Americans still had families in Europe and is better to fight a potential war outside your country. Plus Germans were only trying to take back land that was taken from them by the Versailles treaty. The whole Idea that they wanted to take over europe is fake propaganda history as is the holocaust. the allies were not the "good guys" there are no good guys in war just 2 sets of assholes flinging bombs and bullets at each other.
I am by no means a supporter of Hitler. He was a socialist and a warmonger even if he did do some good things for Germany. The Holocaust doesn't make sense. Hitler likely did nothing wrong. The same thing that happened in Germany prior to his rise is occurring in America.
