In my late 20's I was afraid of being "old and lonely".

Now all my friends are married or divorced, have kids and are miserable/broke and slowly becoming alcoholics/addicts as a means of avoiding their own lives. Meanwhile I just finished up another 2 year program, have banked money, travel at my leisure and best of all I do whatever the fuck I want. Couldn't be happier.

You all get old anyways. Lonliness is a choice. I don't feel lonesome. I used to since all the bad relationships. But then I realized how much joy I felt not being in a relationship. No stress. No worries if she will be upset about such and such. With each relationship ending, I felt an increasing joy each time it seemed. I couldn't figure it out. Soon I began to accept my fate. Like I could live with this. Like it was so much better then what it could have been. I used to get depressed over this. Even thought about how meaningless my life was. But something kept me alive. it is only natural for the feeling to arise every now and again but with age it is a lot easier. The guys on here in the 18-24 age range will have the hardest time dealing with this and more importantly accepting it and being okay on their own. As they transgress into the 25-34 range (where I am at now) the mind matures and they will open up to their situation and come to like and accept it more. When I was 25 and the loneliness arose in my mind it would hamper me but now at 27 after 2 years of really bettering myself I am completely at peace and believe me I am full monk mode....in NYC. That line when spoken by any to me is just a societal projection of what is normal and what is not. People whom utter these words are ones who cannot fathom our realm of thinking, understanding and way(s) of life. All my friends for most part are in LTR or married and although the bombardment from them about when it's my time has not really started as of yet I am preparing for it as we all approach our thirties which is not far off. Get a hobby guys and stop associating your happiness with other people, people will fail you not be grim but my dad is seventy and one of best things he ever told me was that when I'm his age and if I have only one real friend still consider myself lucky. People will come and go only so many stick around for life, identify those people and nurture those relationships. Age is just a number and you control how you perceive yourself whatever age you may be. I'm 27, some fellow 27 year olds I already here them saying I am old and ya know what they're gonna be because they stopped being active and taking care of themselves whilst I see myself approaching my physical peak with room to improve yet still. Perception is everything my friends do not let the mind run rampant, be the true master of your domain. You woke up today you already won.

I usually got the "you'll be lonely and a virgin forever!" type deal, despite not being lonely or a virgin even at the first time I was told that. Women seem to think that the only path to happiness or fulfilling is by devoting yourself to a woman who can barely stand your presence. I'm only 23, but I have several good friend, strong relationships with my mom and brother, and do not regret swearing off of women for the past year.
