I agree, debtors prison is a form of slavery. Early accounts are from the middle ages in Europe. Both men and women were imprisoned for debts and, just like with men today, without the ability to work, their families had to pay their debt or they languished in prison.

Interestingly, in ancient Rome, a slave could work outside his masters preview, if the master agreed, and earn money to buy himself/herself out of slavery. A bit more civilized than the middle ages and out time, IMO.

This is the kind of stuff that the rest of reddit uses to give us a bad name. Comparing marriage (voluntary contract) to slavery (involuntary servitude) is asinine.
